Meanwhile, Mr. Bush's Cuban-American rival for the GOP nomination, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, was campaigning across the state with South Carolina's first Indian-American governor, Nikki Haley, and its first African-American senator, Tim Scott.
"A Benetton commercial," said Mrs. Haley, referring to the clothing brand known for showcasing ethnic and racial diversity.
