Ted Cruz Floats ‘Robe’ for Mike Lee

Sen. Mike Lee hasn't endorsed in the presidential contest, but he appeared Thursday in South Carolina with both of his Senate Republican colleagues seeking the White House - Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.

And Cruz, who hasn't tipped his hand about whom he’d like to see on the Supreme Court, said at an event at a barbecue joint in Easley that, "I think Mike would look pretty good in a robe."

While appointing someone like Lee to the Supreme Court would be unusual in recent history, he has the kind of track record that Cruz has long talked about. Lee’s father Rex served as solicitor general under President Ronald Reagan, and the senator clerked on the Philadelphia-based 3rd Circuit for current Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Alito.

Cruz was talking about the Supreme Court long before it became a campaign issue after the unexpected death of Associate Justice Antonin Scalia. At least as far back as early fall, Cruz spoke regularly about the choice that President George H.W. Bush had a choice between submitting the name of the conservative Judge Edith Jones and his eventual choice, the more moderate David Souter, for a Supreme Court vacancy. Cruz has also spoken out against the selection of Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., particularly his conditioned support for the Affordable Care Act.

Mike Lee would be an excellent Constitutionalist!

It is too bad he isn’t more Charismatic as I would vote for Mike Lee for POTUS over Ted Cruz anytime.

As a SCOTUS judge he would be a great defender of our founding document!

Selling a Court appointment for an endorsement from a guy who you would have thought would have endorsed Cruz immediately says something about his lack of support in the Senate. It’s not just the Cheap Labor Express people who don’t back Cruz.

Not really.

Just dig down through his senate votes and find a few that you dont agree with, and BOOM, Cruz = nominating leftists.

Dont believe me? Look what the Cruz fans pulled with Bill Pryor.

Good. As long as he has the endorsement of the people of Texas, that is the only constituency that really matters. Truman once said if you want a friend in Washington, get a dog. This whole endorsement gig is nothing but product positioning and in the end it really does not matter. Hell trump is hated by everyone in Washington and he is in the lead!

He also “floated” John Bolton for Secretary of State at the CNN townhall in Greenville on Wednesday night.

Kind of hints at the type of character Cruz would like to see on SCOTUS.

Don’t have a link to Jim DeMint’s defending if Ted Cruz. Was played on local radio this week in Greenville. It was spot on as to why many supposedly don’t like Ted Cruz. As Demint put it, they didn’t like him either. DeMint so much as endorsed Ted Cruz, for what it’s worth.

Yes, and they’ll all dislike, if not outright hate Donald Trump, except for Reid, Pelosi, Shumer, et al., when he’s making great deals with them.

I’d like to see Cruz on the Court if he doesn’t get elected to the White House. Mike Lee would be good too.

Bolton is and has been Cruz’s Foreign policy advisor during the campaign. Of course he will be rewarded.

And in the land of reality, this would never happen in a million years. It’s garbage like this that make people cringe when hearing Cruz. A transparent attempt to pander to conservatives, while simultaneously looking for any kimd of endorsement from Lee, in other words, something a professional politician would do. And of course, there’s the usual chorus here commending Cruz for saying this and not seeing right through Cruz.
