Iraqi refugees who left Finland voluntarily due to chilly weather conditions have been pictured kissing the ground in joyous scenes upon their return to Baghdad.

Thousands of the migrants who left Finland arrived back in the Iraqi capital today and were pictured greeting loved ones and celebrating their return home.

They had originally fled to Finland only to become disappointed with life in the frosty Scandinavian country. [...]

Although Germany and Sweden have taken in many of the migrants, Finland too saw its number of asylum seekers increase nearly tenfold in 2015 to 32,500 from 3,600 in 2014. Almost two thirds of these were young Iraqi men, but some changed their mind and returned after Finland chartered flights to Baghdad. ...

Full title: Iraqi 'refugees' who left Finland because they didn't like the weather kiss the ground as they return to their home country

Sounds like some parts of the globe need a colder winter.

How cold is it in Antartica? Could be a place for a safe zone?

The only thing colder than the weather was the welcome.

Average yearly temperature is in the 15°F range on the coasts, although some coastal locations can briefly hit 50°F in the summer (the present time of the year).

The rest of Europe could learn some lessons from Finland.

Heh. So the more southerly European countries need to say ‘Keep walkin, Ahab.’’

I’m surprised by the ones in Scandinavia, especially. They’re not very bright.

Note to Daily Mail:

Finland is a Nordic country, not Scandinavian

Finland - Monty Python

Finland, Finland, Finland
The country where I want to be
Pony trekking or camping
Or just watching TV
Finland, Finland, Finland
It’s the country for me

You’re so near to Russia
So far from Japan
Quite a long way from Cairo
Lots of miles from Vietnam

Finland, Finland, Finland
The country where I want to be
Eating breakfast or dinner
Or snack lunch in the hall
Finland, Finland, Finland
Finland has it all

You’re so sadly neglected
And often ignored
A poor second to Belgium
When going abroad

Finland, Finland, Finland
The country where I quite want to be
Your mountains so lofty
Your treetops so tall
Finland, Finland, Finland
Finland has it all

Oh focus on Finland friends

Finland, Finland, Finland
The country where I quite want to be
Your mountains so lofty
Your treetops so tall
Finland, Finland, Finland
Finland has it all, Finland has it all

More proof that these “refugees” are really just economic migrants. Real refugees wouldn’t return home just because they didn’t like the weather.

They’re clearly not refugees then, they’re just migrants.

Finland was/is always included in Scandinavia from the English-speaking perspective (as is Denmark), even though properly only the northern part of Finland is included in the Scandinavian Peninsula. The Nordic Countries (or “Norden”) includes all of Scandinavia (English perspective), plus Iceland, Greenland, the Aland Islands and the Faroe Islands.

Love that song. Have it on a cd of Python hits such as The Decomposing Composers (my favorite) and I Love Chinese. Now I’m going to go to sleep with it in my head.

Sort of a debatable subject. At least Finnish is not like the other major languages in the area and the Finns originally came from central Russia.
One group went south to Hungary and the other north to Finland (Suomi).

But but this whole mid east crises is due to global warming, I’m sure some noble cant be wrong scientists said this recently. These poor desperate war torn refugees are going back to were they came from because it is to cold? Now I’m all discombobulated, I dont know up from down. Please Mr. Scientist talk me down from this ledge!
