Thomas Sowell has been an intellectual giant in the conservative movement for decades. Despite rarely making appearances in the media, the economist and author has managed to become a household name among conservatives...
Senator Ted Cruz has been criticized in this column before, and will undoubtedly be criticized here again. But we can only make our choices among those actually available, and Senator Cruz is the one who comes to mind when depth and steadfastness come to mind.

I am still undecided, but I have enormous respect for Thomas Sowell.
I have learned so much from him.

The anti Trump are working hard to defeat Trump because they know he will break up the corruption in Washington. And all these freaks are getting something from the current establishment.
Trump for President.
To: SoFloFreeper
Outside of a few thousand conservatives who really follow writers like Sowell, very few have heard of him. This is hardly “huge”. Certainly a plus for Cruz, but the hyperbole serves no one well.

He’s a monolith now. An intellectual sprung from the black riots of the 60’s and 70’s. Enormously respected and deservedly so.
IMHO: He is wrong. Like so many who jumped the fence early on Trump, they just have’t adjusted yet. Some of them may never adjust, never see it.
Trump is talking to you in a way no politician ever would. Shut up and listen.

Well, if you are looking for a steady, committed man with strong convictions consider Trump!
Donald Trump registered as a Republican for the first time as a 41 year old in 1987. We know from his own recounting that he grew up (or, at least, got older) as a Democrat. Twelve years later, in 1999, Trump walked away from the GOP to run as a candidate for the Independence Party. Then in 2001 his liberal sensibilities (remember he was still pro-choice, anti-gun and for higher taxes in 2001) drove him to register as a Democrat. It was not until 2009 that Trump changed his mind again. Donald Trump was a Democrat as recently as 2009. Trump registered as a Republican once again. However, Trump left the GOP again in 2011, registering instead as an independent before returning to the GOP again in April of 2012.
So, I think his name should be written as
Donald Trump (D, R, I, D, R, I, R - NEW YORK)

Well I like Thomas Sowell and I hate his employer National Review especially that brat Rich Lowry.
I imagine after the Election they will be in Bankruptcy
Didn't the Founder's Son William Buckley endorse Obama?

The anti Trump are working hard to defeat Trump because they know he will break up the corruption in Washington. And all these freaks are getting something from the current establishment. Yep billions of dollars against Trump. It's a damn shame that the RNC, every news outlet, the Democrats, even our worthless President have declared war on Trump for their selfish love of power.

Fantastic! This endorsement is so liberating! Now I don’t have to worry if Trump is going to peak at 42%!
I know that Ted Cruz will be able to pull this off and save America from being made great again!

Unfortunately he picked a loser. It's like horse racing, isn't it.
The one who is most likely to win, is the one one should pick.

- In 1999, Trump said he had joined the Reform Party because Republicans are âjust too crazyâ right.
- In 2000, he said: âI hate the concept of guns.â
- In 2004: âI identify more as a Democrat.â
- In 2007: Told Wolf Blitzer on CNNâs âThe Situation Roomâ that Hillary Clinton was the most qualified to make a nuclear deal with Iran.
- In 2008: Said he was âimpressedâ with Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and supported the idea of impeaching then President George W. Bush.
- âIâm going to take care of everybody,â Trump said in September 2015 on CBSâ 60 minutes. When asked how he would pay for it, he responded that âthe governmentâs going to take care of it.â
- He thinks affirmative action is okay
- He would fund Planned Parenthood except for abortion. (This is current federal policy, though Trump doesn't seem to know it.)
- He supports a progressive income tax. He does not favor a flat tax.
- He doesn't want to cut Social Security or Medicare.
- He's in favor of a ban on assault weapons.
- He invited Bill and Hillary Clinton to his wedding.
- He doesn't "fully" believe in supply-side economics.
- He hates the Iran deal, but he wouldn't abrogate it after taking office.
Abortion
Then: On "Meet The Press" in 1999, Trump said he was "very pro-choice." "I hate the concept of abortion," he said. "I hate it. I hate everything it stands for. ... but I just believe in choice."Now: In an interview with Bloomberg Politics in January, Trump said, "I'm pro-life and I have been pro-life." He said he believed there should be exceptions in cases of rape, incest or the life of the mother.
Guns
Then: In Trump's 200 book "The America We Deserve," he wrote that he "generally" opposed gun control but supported an assault weapons ban and a longer waiting period to purchase a firearm. Now: At the 2015 NRA-ILA Leadership Forum, Trump said if he became president, "the 2nd Amendment will be totally protected." He told the Web site Ammoland he does "not support expanding background checks" and said current background checks "don't work."
Healthcare
Then:Â In an interview with Larry King in 1999, Trump said he was "very liberal when it comes to health care" and that he believes in "universal healthcare." Now:Â During his announcement, he called Obamacare "a disaster called the big lie" and said the deductibles were so high they were "virtually useless."
Hillary Clinton
Then: Either Trump or his son donated to Clinton in 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007, he invited her to his 2005 wedding in Florida, where she sat front row, and he's donated at least $100,000 to the Clinton Foundation. He also said in an appearance on the Howard Stern show in the mid-2000s that she was a fantastic senator. Now: On NBC on Wednesday, he called Clinton "the worst secretary of state in the history of our nation" and said she would be "a terrible president."
Party affiliation
Then: Trump changed his party from Republican to Independent Party in 1999, and switched again to Democrat in 2001.Now: Has been a registered Republican since 2009.
There are also some flips which haven't necessarily been from left to right.
Jeb Bush
Then:Â In Trump's 2000 book "The America We Deserve," he called Bush "a good man," "bright, tough and principled," and "exactly the kind of political leader this country needs now and will very much need in the future."Now:Â On Fox News's "On The Record" this week, he called Bush "pathetic" for his support of Common Core, said his immigration views were "baby stuff."
