Trump, Lies, and Bankruptcy
National Review ^ | February 16, 2016 | KEVIN D. WILLIAMSON

A pattern emerges.

Donald Trump is a habitual liar, and the thing about habitual liars is that they lie habitually.

In a testy exchange with former Florida governor Jeb Bush, Trump insisted that he’d never gone bankrupt, and that claims to the contrary are a lie. That’s the Trump magic right there: Lying about your business history is one thing, lying that your critics are lying about it is another.

Trump has a peculiar way of speaking about bankruptcy: He has a deep aversion to the word itself. He speaks of “putting a company into a chapter” without ever answering the implicit question: “Chapter of what? Moby-Dick?” The answer, of course, is the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, to which Trump has taken recourse at least four times over the course of his business career. The chapter in question is the famous Chapter 11, which applies to business bankruptcies. Trump proudly insists that he never has had recourse to Chapter 13, the personal bankruptcy code. This is his apparent justification for saying that he’s never been bankrupt. But of course one of the purposes of Chapter 11 bankruptcy is to keep men such as Donald Trump out of Chapter 13 bankruptcy.

Trump’s first bankruptcy was in 1991 after he borrowed a stupidly irresponsible amount of money to finance that monument to excruciatingly bad taste known as the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. Trump is such a good manager that the casino’s slot machines began failing during its first week of business. Never one to let reality stand in the way of his confidence, Trump had financed the $1 billion project largely with junk bonds, which meant very high interest payments. Trump did not make enough money to meet his interest payment and so was forced into bankruptcy.

>>>Running for office has everything to do with morality.
Shysters do not belong in public office.
Those that craft bankruptcies have no place in the public trust<<<

Since the Federal Government cannot claim Bankruptcy, the fact that all these seasoned Politicians we have been supporting for Years have racked up what will be a $21,000,000,000,000 Debt makes your point Mute.

All I have to say is this, even the worst Republican Contender we have today is Light Years better than any DemoncRat Contender coming down the Pike.

I prefer to keep my eye on the Ball, winning in November.

"the thing about habitual liars is that they lie habitually."

I make it a point to avoid lying. Yet, on several occasions, I have been publically accused of being a liar. Each of these times, it was the accuser who was the habitual liar, and he/she was sampling projecting their own behavior onto me. (One time it was simply because I copied data provided by the accuser and made it available to everyone else.)

You can make your own conclusions about Trump.

I started out opposed to Trump on the basis of his bankruptcies. I knew little else about him. I became enamored of his ability to stuff it to the press, even in their own environment. I have since reverted to my original position because of, not only his lying about his opponents, but also his continuous crying, whining, and juvenile behavior and manners. He is simply not the kind of person I want to run the US.

"Vote for the first orangutan with a scalp flap for president."

Hey, don't knock it. The Republicans are the party of diversity. They are the only ones with females, males, Hispanics, blacks, whites, and oranges running for president.

My point is in no way mute.

Just how do you suppose we got to $21,000,000,000,000 of Debt?

Could it have been by putting Rounders like Trump in office?

He isn’t “Light Years better than any DemoncRat Contender coming down the Pike,” he is very much one of them.

You seem to think that my Comment was made solely on the premise that I am somehow defending Trump.

My comment is that we are in this mess because of all the people that came before Trump even decided to get involved, the Political Class so to speak. That is exactly why he is getting Traction. Because you don’t want to see it doesn’t mean it isn’t so.

Now you are insinuating that we have Elected other Trumps in the past who got us $21,000,000,000,000 in Debt. How utterly ridiculous. Who are those other Trumps, a Bush or two?

I like the way you took this part of my comment out of context:

>>>He isn’t “Light Years better than any DemoncRat Contender coming down the Pike,” he is very much one of them<<<

I said ANY Republican Contender is Light Years better than any DemoncRat coming down the Pike. That would include Trump, JEB! or even Amnesty Rubio. The pecking order is entirely up to you.

Your original point was Mute, IMHO. Carry on...

Hundreds of congressmen that are morally equivalent to Trump.

You prove my point; so much for the mute button.

Open your eyes some day.

I’m not sure what you think we are arguing about, but it has nothing to do with Trump, it has everything to do with the Republican Party as a whole and an Electorate that Votes solely on the premise of their own self interest, not the best interest of the Republic.

That is why this Country is $19,000,000,000,000 in Debt and the same Voting Public cares not a whit. They do not feel the negative effects of this massive Debt, so it isn’t a big problem for them.

Apparently Adele’s sound problems at the Grammy’s and poor Kanye West’s financial problems are the issues of the day.

Just look to the following of Bernie or Hillary who are promising to give the Farm away without mentioning the cost of such idiocy.

Concentrating your ire on Trump when this has been a systemic problem for decades makes no difference. At the very least, he is addressing the massive Debt and maybe his message is reaching people who believe it or not haven’t a clue that it even exists.

I’m a Cruz guy first, but even he wouldn’t be able to right the Ship of State in it’s current form.

With that, I declare the Horse Dead after the massive beating we have been giving it. Have to get to work, have a good day.

“I believe “Predator in Chief” would be the appropriate title for the Trumper.”

Anyone that has lived the life he has and made the deals and gambled like he has, would most certainly be called a “Predator”!

By Cuban in Chief I don’t know if you are talking about Mark, Ted or Marco, could be any of the three!
