Exactly. I want a president that works big to small. Working on the menus brings memories of Jimmy Carter scheduling the tennis courts.

How about nuts Mr. all knowing pretend President? Some people (that includes soldiers) have allergies to gluten and nuts.

what is gluten anyways.

Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and similar grains. It makes bread dough (for example) sticky and stringy, and allows it to rise properly.

And if it so bad for people

Define "so bad". Most people digest gluten without the slightest trouble or irritation. Some people are allergic to, or unable to digest gluten. These people can suffer mild to severe intestinal distress if they ingest gluten. Mild = gas and cramps. Severe = explosive diarrhea.

why hasn't it been taken from food all together?

Because that's not possible in a food economy based largely on wheat, barley, and similar cereal grains.

What was the “crowd” ready assembled for some other event, or was they there to actually see him...just curious?

It is nice to see Cruz focusing on the top-priority issues that affect millions of Americans.

Predicting that the liberal media will locate several members of the military who desperately depend on a gluten free diet bewailing Ted Cruz’s horrid insensitivity in 3,2,1.....

It’s called marketing. The stats are as phony as man-made climate change.

Don’t use GMO grain and the glutin is not toxic... But that is another topic.

I like Ted Cruz’s sense of humor. He is not PC, yet classy.

Cruz uses this example to illustrate a larger problem of how the administration is misusing and abusing the military. It is similar to when we made a big deal out of government funding of cowboy poetry reading. By itself it isn't a big issue, what it represents, out of control spending in general or the wrong priorities in the military, it can be very large.

“Proving again that Cruz has no sense of humor and that Trump’s prioritization of the issues resonates with American voters every time Cruz says stupid stuff like this.”

Do you mean the nasty, slimy, lying, cheating, sleazy Ted Cruz who has ONLY had one wife? The one who not only beats his wife and kids, but beats his wife WITH HIS KIDS, using them like baseball bats to force that harlot to do the bidding of the Goldman Sachs masters who own his soul? Or do you mean the Ted Cruz who forced American conservatives to allow John Roberts onto the SCOTUS, despite the intense opposition of three to four monks living in Patagonia, because evil Ted foreordained that Roberts would bless Obamacare five years late? Or perhaps the Ted Cruz who planned for ten years for CNN to make a last minute announcement before the Iowa caucuses that Ben Carson was maybe kind of flakey and wasn’t serious?

Or now the evil warmongering Ted Cruz who wants the military to forgo gluten free food so they can be sent to rampage through the world hopped up on gluten enriched rage MREs?

Oh, that Ted Cruz, the guy with an evil eye so powerful it causes Trump followers to lose their senses and begin spouting gibberish.

Craziness, all this catering to special diets.

I happen to be on a diet in which I am avoiding certain foods. But I don't make a problem for anybody else. I just eat around the foods I can't eat and I carry around a tin of sardines and a few baggies of nuts in the very rare instance there's nothing available (hasn't happened yet).

When I was in the military, we would always swap the contents of our MREs around. If one Marine couldn't eat crackers, he'd swap them to somebody else for their coffee, or dehydrated strawberries, or something. Or just not eat them. We never went hungry with MREs.

My favorite MRE was turkey loaf. A lot of people didn't like turkey loaf so I got a lot of extra turkey loaf.

Gluten free MRE? Nonsense. There's no need.

Democrat policies that turn the military into a lab for social justice warriors:

Gluten free would be more of a health issue than a social justice issue I would think.

Actually, the gluten problem, meaning celiac disease and similar gastrointestinal disorders, represents a legitimate issue of medicine and of troop recruitment, screening, and care. For about 1 in 125 or even 1 in 100 people, gluten has toxic and allergic effects that have major medical consequences. For such people, gluten must be strictly excluded, so, as a matter of medicine and health, they must be provided a gluten-free diet.

Unfortunately, for reasons of expense, there is no national policy of comprehensive screening for the gluten problem and it may not be suspected and tested for until well into adulthood. The military thus has the choice of providing gluten free food or of screening out people with the gluten problem and disqualifying them from military service.

Well, I hate to toot my own horn, but if that’s the case, I’m officially better at campaigning than Ted Cruz, because this is a really dumb and narrow way to bring attention to something.

Essentially, Cruz is saying “look at these dumb issues Obama cares about, let’s also waste time talking about them”. Doesn’t make much sense outside of a crowd that already enjoys making fun of Obama during the down time, which I’d certainly consider myself a part of. But this isn’t the downtime and preaching to the choir isn’t going to win an election. If he wanted to attract people to his platform regarding mishandling of the military, he should hammer the Clown-In-Chief on Benghazi, all of the Arab spring failures, and all of the budget cuts that put men and women who spend a lifetime serving their country out of work. People care about those things, not gluten-free croutons on salad.

Having commanders worrying about small things instead of the big things is what get’s people killed.
