Powell Blames Himself, Others For Specious Iraq WMD Claims to U.N.
Global Security Newswire ^ | May 25, 2012

Former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell in a new book said he blames himself for not trusting his instinct and making what proved to be false assertions to the United Nations about Iraq's possession of weapons of mass destruction, Bloomberg reported earlier this month (see GSN, Feb. 17, 2011).

Powell's high-profile February 2003 prewar presentation to the U.N. Security Council included now-discredited claims that Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein had movable biological weapons facilities and was involved in a "sinister nexus" with al-Qaeda.

No evidence of active WMD production facilities or usable stockpiles have been found in Iraq following the U.S.-led March 2003 invasion.

"A failure will always be attached to me and my U.N. presentation," Powell writes in "It Worked For Me," a book that provides leadership advice. "I am mad mostly at myself for not having smelled the problem. My instincts failed me."

In his recently published book, Powell asserts "there would have been no war" in Iraq had then-President George W. Bush and his councilors understood that Hussein did not possess any functioning unconventional weapons. However, he lauded the fact that under Bush "we got rid of the horrific Hussein" government and toppled the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.

The retired general also faulted U.S. intelligence officers for lacking the "courage" to alert him that he was receiving bad data on Iraqi weapons of mass destruction ahead of his U.N. appearance.

"Why did no one stand up and speak out during the intense hours we worked on the speech?" the ex-secretary said. "Some of these same analysts later wrote books claiming they were shocked that I have relied on such deeply flawed evidence."

Powell said he relied on the CIA to help develop his U.N. presentation but that he was not aware at the time that "much of the evidence was wrong" (Capaccio/Tiron, Bloomberg, May 4).

Take it up with President Bush because he said the opposite of what you are saying

In a speech before the World Affairs Council of Charlotte, NC, on April 7, 2006, President Bush stated that he fully understood that the intelligence was wrong, and [he was] just as disappointed as everybody else when U.S. troops failed to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

I wonder how many of those weapons were on that Ship (Al Enticer and later RENAMED "ALNGOOM ALMODIAA 1" after the Benghazi investigation started) that carried weapons to the Muslim Brotherhood in Benghazi ?

Remember when Blix was being harangued for being Inspector Clouseau because we said he was looking in the wrong places and he asked if we knew where they were, tell him and he’d find them? Remember how quiet it suddenly got? That’s when I knew something was wrong and that invasion would happen, WMD or not.

Frankly we should’ve gone to war against Pakistan by that argument since they were providing shelter for Osama Bin Laden.

We lost the House in 2006 because of Bullstalin news reports by the Pravda Media courtesy of collusion with the DNC denouncing a “culture of corruption that rises to the top ranks of the party” epitomized by Chris Bell’s partisan witchhunt of Tom DeLay (and a kangaroo court in Austin) and a toe tapper in a men’s room and a faggot texting a Democrat aide. Iraq had NOTHING to do with the 2006 Democrat takeover.

And the 2008 collapses had a LOT to do with two years of Pelosi and Reid. The housing collapse had a lot to do with the faggotry of Barney Frank who was given a male boy toy as compensation for opposing Bush’s investigations into Fannie and Freddie.

But “Bush lied, people died”, I know this because Code Pinko said so.

Trump is the Donor Class.

Look at his record. Hold it up against any of the major donors to Ted Cruz. Donald is worse than 95% of them. At least Ted’s support is diffused among multiple donors, many of whom have been consistent conservatives for most of their lives.

Donald serves only one donor. Himself. And it’s been clear that Donald’s primary donor is a small-minded, vulgar, little boy who has made most of his money in the seamier side of life.

.....Colin Powell asserts in his new book: "there would have been no Iraq war" had then-Pres GWB and his councilors understood that Hussein did not possess any functioning unconventional weapons. Powell lauded the fact that under Bush "we got rid of the horrific Hussein" government and toppled the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.....

Oh please, Colin......the US hasn/t figured out the fervid Mideast mindset to this day? Its thousand-year-old sectarian internecine warfare was kept in check by strongmen like Saddam and Khadafi. Now these savages are marauding all over Europe.....and are coming here to kill us for what we did in Iraq.

POINTS TO PONDER

<><> Powell never mentions that the conniving Mideast types calculated the advantage of having a superpower in their midst....and they cashed in bigtime.

<><> The US gamely decided to train the indigenous population....it cost us billions and we managed to train 4-5 over five years.

<><> In the US we take them off the farm, send them to boot camp, and in 3 weeks we got soldiers.

<><> The Bank of Kabul where the CIA and DOD deposited billions to finance the war was a withdrawal-only goldmine for insiders.

<><> For public consumption, the US said we went into Iraq to show them the advantages of democracy and to get all warm and cuddly as they embraced it.

waiting for hysterical laughter to die down

Remember this Colin? The war profiteering was outrageous. Neocon godfather Richard Perle relaxing in Paris (above the fray---nowhere near his cohorts plotting in the WH Office of Special Ops) got so rich w/ insider info, he was reported to be starting his own oil company.

<><> One last thing, Colin.....GWB estimated the Iraq strike would cost $50-60 billion.......then an angry Bush fired advisor Larry Lindsey because Lindsay dared to say the war might cost more like $100 billion.

That was in 2007 dollars.

FAST FORWARD TO TODAY Iraq and Afghanistan today have cost the US some $3 TRILLION....and rivers of young blood. We/re still pouring US tax dollars into those decrepit Mideast countries, and..... as Donald says....we got NOTHING in return.
