Poll: South Carolina still solidly for Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton

The CBS News Battleground Tracker poll Donald Trump keeps a large lead in South Carolina, bolstered by support from conservatives and also from evangelical voters, who make up a large share of the electorate here.

Ted Cruz is in second place, but well behind Trump. Cruz has the support of those who consider themselves very conservative, but trails Trump among all conservatives as well as moderates.

John Kasich has gotten a little bounce out of his surprisingly strong showing in New Hampshire, but he may be limited here by the fact that evangelical voters are not as strongly in support of him as non-evangelicals.

For Trump voters, who have been relatively steadfast in their support over the last few months, the percentage who say they've firmly decided on Trump has increased. Trump's lead among evangelicals is up from January, and he has widened his lead among conservatives, too.

In a contest marked by divisions among so-called "insiders" and "outsiders," South Carolina Republicans show a strong preference for campaigns running as the latter, and this poll helps illustrate why. By four to one, South Carolina Republicans describe the "establishment" as a bad thing, and few describe it as a group that knows how to get things done.

In Iowa, Cruz got victory...but no triumph.

..... the Carson rumor-mongering, the demeaning vote fraud mailers, and now the porn star ad, the Rubio PP/hood claims.....

Cruz has made a number of down-and-dirty errors that are costing him bigtime.

As one astute FReeper posted: It takes some effort to make winning Iowa a liability, but Ted and his boys managed to make it happen.

Just wait until Cruz gets to the South, things will be different!

Oh wait...

How could anyone support Bush? I just don’t see it. How could these clowns throw so much money behind him?

Cruz gets slammed for lying....and its well-deserved. Other than Hillary,
no candidate lies as easily as Cruz....without even batting an eye.
A truly amazing gift.

Must be something in the Canadian water.

=====================================

"I don't like Cruz but I don/t know why," is a frequent FR post.

Cruz/s incessant overbearing campaign seems to be aching to prove something to himself.
Maybe its a Canadian-latino/s lack of self-esteem. Who knows?

But the Oval Office is definitely not the place to go find your human potential.

Character counts and so does where a candidate/s loyalties might lie.

That is good.

I just heard on Chris Wallace that Sanders had 14,000 at event in Denver yesterday. Just had to comment because I was shocked!

Jeb and W always have to tell everyone how much they love their parents. It’s a little creepy to me though there is nothing wrong with it. They aren’t 20 year olds. Jeb just looks like a Mama’s boy.

That’s a bigger lead for Trump in South Carolina than he had in New Hampshire.

Trump will win South Carolina.

Without Donald, the GOPe may have given us Jeb. They would have gone into November without me.

If Sanders can beat Hillary in NV and SC, look for the Biden drums to start beating.

It is too bad that the voters did not get that advice/message in 2008.

“Sanders had 14,000 at event in Denver yesterday.”

What was that a Cannabis convention? I can imagine the smell.
