He did in at least one general election. My point was more to the reaction of the press getting all defensive about what it wants to now portray as a bad choice by the voters. I pulled Reagan out of the air, because the press hates honest small-government conservatives that can talk directly to the people, and I just assumed that the press would make excuses for Iowa going to Reagan. “Fooled us” or whatever works at the moment.
