Could be because they are so ridiculously overpriced. We’re talking about technology that is almost 200 years old, but Ruger wants $900 for a .44 magnum.
I guess when your pistol jams, you can think of all the money you are saving.
Devaluation of the US dollar has a lot to do with that. I purchased a 4" S&W 686+ in 1999 for $437 in San Diego. The going price on Buds gunshop (online) is $715 now. The Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle retailed for $439 in 1999. It's $799 today. I'm quoting discount street prices for current prices, not MSRP.
