Full Headline ... "Mother of Columbine killer Dylan Klebold gives first TV interview since massacre: 'I had all those illusions that everything was OK'"

The mother of one of the Columbine shooters still has trouble calling her son a "killer," nearly 17 years after the bloody high school massacre that left 13 people dead.

"There is never a day that goes by where I don't think of the people that Dylan harmed," Sue Klebold told ABC's "20/20 Friday" in her first TV interview since her son's gun rampage.

She then explained why she used the delicate term "harmed."

It may have tough for her to acknowledge/accept what her son did, but after 17 years, it's time.

and we care what she says because...

his name and history should be flushed down the drain and treated as if he never existed. referred to as dipshit #2

if needed to be referenced.

everyone should see, that if you do this, you will be forgotten, not martyred.

Time?

I disagree. It’s degrading and serves no purpose to go all “Jerry Springer” on TV and blubber out your sorrows and mistakes.

Folks should stay classy, reserved and show some discretion.

She owes nobody an explanation.

Who gives a sh.. any why should anyone care what she thinks? This being the NY daily news I smell an anti-gun angle, but I don't want to immerse myself in the filth of reading it.

I remember in her Oprah essay she blithely excused herself and claimed she had no idea he was troubled. Then as the essay goes in she mentions his crime and problems at school and STILL tries to excuse herself for not taking any action at all.

She’s a loser and she raised one.

I, too, read the Oprah essay, but came away with a gentler view of the mother than you did. I believe that she was a devoted mother to her son, but that her son gave into evil. Perhaps if they had raised their children with some religion — beyond a few visits over a couple of years to a Lutheran church — her son would have resisted evil, but who knows? The book Columbine by Dave Cullen was superb. I recommend it. It puts the blame where it belongs: on the shoulders of the shooters themselves.

Mom wrote a book, to be released Monday, with profits donated to mental health charities. Why else would people come out of the woodwork except to push a book?

She still sounds in denial even after 17 years, so I can’t imagine there would be much to learn from her book.

She donating all the proceeds of the book to charity, so it’s not as if she is chasing a payday.

A lot of friends of the boys felt that Dylan Klebold was a follower, and think Eric Harris was the driving force. On the one hand, they’d known Klebold for years. OTOH, some of them had been friends with Klebold for over a decade, while Harris was the new guy. Who knows.

I do remember after a reading binge on Columbine that I thought Klebold’s parents did a better job by him than Harris’ did, but at this point specifics escape me. Giving the book proceeds for mental health issues is a nice gesture. Maybe the book will give her some closure.

I was not aware of that. Thanks for the info.

Yeah. Bloomberg will likely hire her as an antigun spokeshole, and pay her well once he gets wind of this.

I could never figure out WHY those parents allowed those two boys to associate with one another after they were arrested for stealing a radio out of a car.

Also, IIRC, just a few days before the shootings a neighbor reported the two were in the garage at one of the boys’ homes, and they were making a TON of noise, smashing glass bottles, etc., which were later used in the attack.

Where the H-— were the parents? What planet were they on?And what planet is this woman on NOW?

Great. That does sound better.

I hope her story though doesn’t inspire some other idiot disturbed child to act out like her son did.

It worries me that repeating these events over and over might not lead to some new whack job doing the same thing.

Is this the mother that was big into the Moms Against Gun Violence group before the murders?

I remember a lot of hushed talk in the day that she, or the other mother, was into that group but facilitated the boys getting the guns.

The obvious connection was that they assisted the kids’ actions to further their gun control aims.

Yes, I worry too about that. If the media would be responsible and not name the shooter, show their picture, etc, then it wouldn’t inspire so many copycats.

However, it’s a free country, so we can’t rightly stop the press from reporting. They won’t restrain themselves either, because another media outlet would just “scoop” them and they would lose money.

By sixteen even good parents cannot supervise their children every second. You have to put in all you can to your children by then, and still keep talking to them, keep up with their schools, but there is a limit to what you can control. If a 16 year old hides his evil well at home, he is capable of committing it without blame going to his parents.

I don’t know this guy’s story enough to know if she truly is to blame. At least his mom wasn’t a drug addict gang banging ho. There are plenty of those kind who abdicated raising their teen sons entirely. And those mothers never get blamed because they are covered by political correctness.

Also, wasn’t bullying a factor here? An entire school filled with responsible adults knew this wasn’t right and allowed this bullying.
