I can only speak for myself why Trump is my candidate...I'm 71 years old, own my own business, meet people, talk to people and pretty much know what they have to say about things...

I am voting for Trump for a number of reasons, main reason is he is an American, born on American Soil, built the American Dream, and now can see that America is in bad trouble...economy, financially, military, healthcare, taxes and immigration.

The other candidates don't click with me because the are all ‘owned’ by super packs, lobbyists, special interest groups, Wall Street...they are ‘taken’ care of and told what to say...Trump is self funding, he withdrew x amount of money from HIS business to fund his campaign, pay his staff of people, put gas and maintenance in his plane and helicopters, rent arenas for speeches...he is doing this on HIS own money, it's HIS company that he is taking money from to do this on...

Trump is trying to save our Country, because one: He's an American; Two: born on American Soil; Three: built the American Dream; Four: wants to help Americans have a Country that can produce for Americans once again...

I have the right to my opinions, and this is my personal vote that I am giving to him, I don't need anyone’s approval, I don't need to ask anyone about their feelings, I don't care about the other candidates, and I can live my life according to MY standards, and Trump fits what I think America Should Become Again!!!

I thank you for taking the time and effort to explain your views.

Please understand, I never suggested that you or anyone else are not entitled to your opinion or that you need my approval. I’m not sure where that came from in your remarks. I asked a question trying to understand something about Trump’s very loyal support.

The points you make about his appeal make sense to me and were reasons I was more positive about his candidacy in the early going. Then, I ran into some facts that reduced the weight of his positives. His financial independence is still a net positive, but its far from an inoculation against outside interests. He still is beholden to the banking industry that holds mortgages on a lot of his properties and provides him with the cash flow to maintain and fly that jet, etc.

His American birth and patriotism are also positives, but I see his ego transcending those values. He seems to regard himself and his march to the peak of Celebrity Olympus as the most important reasons for his candidacy. Naturally, this is a subjective judgment, so it cannot carry much weight.

Given Trump’s overall history and the weight of a fairly liberal track record, I also find it very hard to be convinced about what he wants to do for the country based on speeches alone, speeches which contradict a lot of what he has said before he declared. Again, a subjective thing, but he does have to overcome the burden of his liberal past.
