I thought the mantra of NRO “conservatives” was to “support the most conservative candidate that can win.”

I guess those rules go out the window when it comes to Mr. Trump.

They’ll just say the disclaimer is....he can’t win.
See how that works?

Ah yes, the “Buckley rule”. The key word in that rule is “conservative”. It doesn’t apply to non-conservatives.

Our definition of “conservative” obviously differs. At its most basic, I define a conservative as one who wants to preserve and uphold our Constitution, which embraces individual sovereignty, private property rights, and limited federal government.

Trump is for universal healthcare (socialism), increasing the ethanol mandate (government picking winners and losers), punishing private industry for not doing what he wants (moving jobs oversees to escape overbearing government taxation and regulations), and using the power of government to enrich himself (eminent domain abuses). None of these positions are consistent with commonly accepted definitions of conservative.

Trump is a populist who may be electable, but he is not a conservative.
