Fiorina: Marine Corp leaders should decide on jobs open to women

Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina said in Greenville Thursday that Marine Corps leaders should be allowed to make their own decisions about whether to let women join ground-combat units without political interference from above.

The Obama administration and Navy Secretary Ray Mabus are pushing to open all military jobs to women, despite a Marine Corps study of women in combat that found all-male units performed significantly better than mixed-gender units on tactical tests and that women were injured more than twice as often as men.

Asked about the issue after a campaign appearance at the Poinsett Club, the only female Republican presidential candidate said the decision should be left to the Marine Corps.

“I think we ask our military leaders, and our men and women in uniform to do an incredibly important and dangerous job,” Fiorina told The Greenville News. “And so leaders need to decide. We shouldn’t politicize our military. We should let our military leaders decide what’s best to maintain readiness.”

Given how quickly Rubio, Jeb, and Christie jumped on the women in combat bandwagon, I thought it worthwhile pointing out that the one woman in the race, at least, would not have overruled the Marine Corps request to continue the exclusion.

When she's right, she's right.

Its a shame we've come to the point where this is even considered a legitimate question.

Shes not right, every Marine is supposed to be a rifleman. That means even the clerks and cooks can be on the front line with others depending on them for survival.

The Marines had the Womens Reserve in WWII. Worked out fine.

I can say with 100% certainly that senior generals in the Corps are extremely unhappy about this.

What is particularly falling is that the Marines were the only branch not to knuckle under and agree without a fight. They were the only branch to request an exclusion, and conducted an exhaustive study to back it up. The SecNav responded by insulting their integrity and overruling them.

But that study is still out there, and any candidate could use that as ammo to fight this policy. Apparently, most of them just weren't man enough to do so.

There is a massive difference between every Marine being capable of acting as a rifleman in a pinch, and being with the infantry. Most Marines will readily acknowledge that.

We had BAMS in when I was in too, they had to qualify just like me every year. The issue is the Cultural Marxists want Women in combat roles as the primary duty.

If they are cooks etc, then they are not 0311s (combat riflemen). The cooks et al only enter combat when things get dicey. Every Marine is supposed to know how to be a rifleman, but that isn’t the same as being one full time. Assigning a women to 0311 is what will get the other 0311s in her platoon killed. Then they will have to fall back on the cooks etc.

How is she wrong? All she said was that the Commandant’s request to keep women out of combat arms MOS’s should be respected. Do you really disagree with that?

Yes all marines are riflemen. That doesn’t mean that you have to deploy women in infantry units.

Yes, Every Marine is a Rifleman. Every Marine is trained with the same basic combat skills, so in the event that sh!t hits the fan, POGs have the basic skill sets to perform in combat. That doesn’t mean, POGs are going to be on the front line running patrols, kicking in doors, clearing houses, and generally destroying anything that enters their path.

For those unfamiliar with the term POG.

Definition: Personnel Other (than) Grunts

Grunts (Infantry) Defintion: Property Of Grunts

I've trained newly-commissioned Lt's at Quantico, and we put women through the same training the men got. Most of them were gamers and did the best they could.

But their overall tactical performance in the field was noticeably worse, and they could not keep up on conditioning hikes. And that's when compared to the average male Marine, not to grunts.

The Commandant was absolutely right on keeping women out of those MOS's. Too bad most of our politicians lacked the cojones to back him up.

Yes, woman shouldn’t be in combat units. Every Marine including female Marines are trained as a Rifleman, but being trained as a Rifleman and being in a combat role/unit are not the same.

Too late, obama and mabus set the precedent. If women like gloria steinem and feminists want equal rights, well guess what: you got em!

Now I want all able bodied women between the ages of 18-35 to register for selective service. If they fail to register, then they are subject to the same punishment as men. This is what the equal rights crowd wanted, this is what they get.

No special protections for women in the military, no maternity leave, no special accomodations, no special treatment whatsoever. And especially NO being excused from having to serve in combat.

Women wanted equal rights, sided with the radical feminists, now they have own up to it. Now women will get to serve in combat, and get to eat a bullet just like the men that they serve along side with.

You know, it is possible to recognize that a candidate is right on one issue without supporting them overall.

So do you think Obama should have overruled the Marines' objection?
