Ted Cruz Is Not Eligible to Be President
Slate ^ | February 8, 2016 | Eris Posner

Posted on 02/09/2016 6:06:13 AM PST by C19fan

With Ted Cruz the victor of the first contest of the GOP nominating calendar, we can no longer avoid the question mischievously posed by Donald Trump: Is Cruz ineligible to be president? Cruz was born in Canada to an American mother and a Cuban father. The Constitution says that only a “natural born citizen” can be president. Is Cruz a natural born citizen? (You may recall that before he attacked Cruz on this front, Trump spent months flogging a ludicrous version of this critique against President Obama, who was actually born in the United States, unlike Cruz.)

Well good thing there isn’t a rule about being Kitty Cat, because he would be ineligible twice over.

He’s neither native-born American, nor Kenyan.

All it takes is ONE Federal Judge to agree with this article, and we’re all looking at Obama OT.

I keep seeing Slate, Politico, Washington Post, NYT, and CNN being cited on FR. This is nothing new, but what is new is that they are now being cited on the premise that they are vessels of truth and objectivity.

How is Trump not legally qualified to be POTUS, is that job only open to certain people?

Most important for the purposes of the Cruz question, a natural born citizen cannot be someone whose birth entitled him to citizenship because of a statute—in this case a statute that confers citizenship on a person born abroad to an American parent.

That same statute also confers citizenship at birth on people who were born in the U.S. Does that mean that they are not natural-born citizens either?

Agree...some of the anti-Trump pieces, being posted from the outlets you mention, are downright laughable.

Translation, they are afraid of Cruz.

And properly so, because he’d make mince mystery meat of the witch and the dunce.

Yeah, because the Founding Fathers would have welcomed an Arab Prince or the Duke of Wellington or the Prince of Monoco as King ...uh I mean President. Btw, Prince Albert I married a US Citizen.

Let’s not forget the Napoleon Bonaparte scandal involving his brother and the American Wife.

Darn right, and both parents of the candidates must have been born here, too.
