What a difference a year makes in Syria. And the introduction of massive Russian airpower.
Last February, President Bashar al-Assadâs regime and its Shiite auxiliaries mounted a large-scale attempt to encircle Aleppo, the northern city divided between regime and rebels since 2012 and battered by the dictatorâs barrel bombs. Islamist and non-Islamist mainstream rebels â to the surprise of those who have derided their performance, let alone their existence â repelled the offensive at the time. What followed was a string of rebel advances across the country, which weakened Assad so much that they triggered Moscowâs direct intervention in September, in concert with an Iranian surge of forces, to secure his survival.

Wtf are “the rebels?”
I was under the impression that most of Obama’s merceneries (aka rebels) are for most purposes indistinguishable from ISIS.
Obamaâs Disastrous Betrayal of the American People.
Spectacularly dishonest article, pretending ISIS is the only terrorist group Assad is fighting.
Russia killed hundreds of Al Nusra fighters in Aleppo the past few days.
Al Nusra is Al Qaeda — they are terrorists.
In fact a majority of the Rebels would properly be described as terrorists. Even the USA backed rebels fought side by side with Nusra to attack monasteries and push Christians out of their villages.
Yes John, we do. You personally John. Just you. We know you served in Vietnam, John, so you got da skills.
Go get em tiger.
Democrats always abandon allies. It’s what they do. Russia on the other hand sticks with them ‘til the last dog dies.
Yep betrayed the poor ‘freedom fighters’ working for AQ. So sad.
What allies have the Russians ever had...besides the Nazis?
There were never any moderate rebels.
McCain, Graham, Rubio, Obama, Hillary, Kerry are all working for the Saudis who want Assad out of the way of their pipeline.
Putin does not want that pipeline built.
We have been arming jihadists in Syria just like we did in Afghanistan in the ‘80’s. Look how that came back on us.
Syria is none of our business.
What allies have the Russians ever had...besides the Nazis?
And Churchill and FDR
Assad, Castro, Vietnam, the ANC...
Said the CFR globalists.

http://www.cnn.com/2015/10/12/politics/syria-rebel-groups-ammunition-50-tons/index.html
U.S. military cargo planes gave 50 tons of ammunition to rebel groups overnight in northern Syria, using an air drop of 112 pallets as the first step in the Obama Administration’s urgent effort to find new ways to support those groups.
This administration has promoted the notion that only ISIS remains as a terror organization while the al-Qaeda franchise al-Nusra has morphed into “rebels”and “opposition” i.e. US-approved good guys.
Promotion of al-Qaeda as the good guy has become necessary for this administrationâs narrative because the al qaeda aligned al-Nusra terrorist gang and its allies are the only militarily significant opposition to Assad remaining outside ISIS.And President Obama would rather see al qaeda that threatens the West in charge of Syria than Assad who does not pose a threat so he can save political face in having backed the wrong horse.
So Obamaâs propaganda turnabout on al-Qaeda as the good guy if you are prepared to forget little things like the 9/11 terrorist atrocity. I trust the Russians who are in it for their own self serving interests more on this one than I do the current occupant of the Oval office.
Isn’t this a good thing? what distinguishes rebels from ISIS?
The U.S.? How do you forget that?
We don’t need to be backing any so-called “rebels” or “moderates” or anything like that.
