Russia Accuses Turkey of Preparing to Invade Syria

By The Associated Press

MOSCOW — Feb 4, 2016, 12:58 PM ET

The Russian military said Thursday that it has "reasonable grounds" to suspect that Turkey is making intensive preparations for a military invasion of neighboring Syria.

Images of a checkpoint on the border between the Turkish town of Reyhanli and the town of Sarmada in Syrian taken in late October and late January show a buildup of transportation infrastructure that could be used for moving in troops, ammunition and weapons, spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said in an English-language written statement.

He said these were among growing signs of "hidden preparation of the Turkish armed forces for active actions on the territory of Syria.

"Maybe, in peacetime, these facts would indicate the expectation of trade turnover growth between the neighboring countries," Konashenkov said. "However, during wartime, in such a way the transport infrastructure is preparing on the eve of military intervention."

A Turkish Foreign Ministry official said the ministry would have no immediate comment.

Very close.

And of all times to have the Enemy Within in charge of our military. It’s frightful.

The sides do seem to be lining up. The question mark is NATO. I don't think NATO has to support Turkey if Turkey invades another nation, but is NATO hellbent on a war rather than acknowledging Russia's accomplishments?

Turkish Official: Russia trying to hide its crimes in Syria with Turkey accusation

By REUTERS \ 02/04/2016 20:11

Russia is trying to divert attention away from its own crimes in Syria by suggesting that Turkey is preparing a military incursion in the country, a senior official in Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu's office said on Thursday. "The Russians are trying to hide their crimes in Syria. They are simply diverting attention from their attacks on civilians as a country already invading Syria. Turkey has all the rights to take any measures to protect its own security," the official told Reuters. A Russian defense ministry spokesman said earlier on Thursday that Moscow had serious grounds to suspect Turkey is preparing a military incursion in Syria.

---

At least 4 NATO members called for the overthrow of Assad and planned to bomb Assad on 'suspected use of chemical weapons" that would be the USA, France, UK and Turkey and at the same time have sent weapons, money and advisers to train the Syrian rebels. So the biggest NATO nations wanted to get in a shooting war with Assad's Syria to overthrow him.

And Putin scared the hell out of NATO and they hate him for blocking their plans in Eastern Europe.

So I don't know what will happen - this has the potential to lead to a limited nuclear exchange or worse.

Looks like those shinny new SU-34S will get some target practice. Not close to any war - Turkish planes attempting to interfere will be shot out of the sky by the S400 system at Latakia, ground forces will be chewed up and spat out. Russians are already volunteering to fight with the Peshmerga.

Agreed. Unfortunately the Euro globalists with Obama, love them some Muslims. The more the better.

Syria has been a client state of Russia for years. Let the Turks try and hopefully Russia will return the Hagia Sophia to its rightful place as a church.

Great points you make.

One other consideration will be the Muslim “refugee” situation in Europe when the warm weather comes. NATO armies could be tied down in their own countries if the Muslims go on a huge rampage.

Paris was paralyzed by a few terrorists. Imagine what thousands across Europe could do.

Just a thought.

Saw some footage of Russia bombing a town in the distance - the bomb that fell was huge looked like a jet diving nose first into the town. Russian bunker buster, maybe?

Monitor the border and if the turks cross into Syria, MOAB them or whatever it takes to eliminate the threat.

How do you know? The explosion was nothing like a thermobaric blast.

I should have added a question mark - I am typing on a phone with non-dexterous fingers.

Fuel-air bomb?

Was big enough physically like the MOAB, but wrong sort of explosion - looked like an HE blast rather than the huge spreading fireball - also did not know Russia had those, but it would figure.

Maybe it was a deep penetrater of some sort. was too fast to get much of a look and now I don’t remember where I saw it - doncha just hate brain cell loss?

Turkey makes build up under watchful Russian eyes in the sky, attempts to invade Syria but its air force and navy are decimated in the first 10 minutes, while the TA tries to cross the boarder without any air cover and suffers mass casualties, retreats - end of the 15 minute war.

Turkey knows any such attempt would lose most of its military, leaving the Kurds a free hand.
