He is a known quantity. One of the Anti-federalists said the same thing about Alexander Hamilton and his phony professions of republican sentiment (he was actually a centrist, damn near a Phalangist, or as they called it at the time, "Empire without the king"); but nobody actually did anything about it until Aaron Burr shot him.
