Donald Trump bragged about how he was going to bring a record number of voters to the polls. And he did. The only problem is, most of the newcomers came out to vote against him.
In the last presidential primary, there were 120,000 Republican attendees; in this one, there were 180,000, a 50% increase. Whom did all these new people vote for? About a third voted for Donald Trump, but two thirds came out to vote against him, for other candidates. There's no denying that Trump drove the increase in numbers, but most of the increase was antagonistic, not out of support.
Trump has a record-setting 60% unfavorable rating among all Americans, the highest unfavorable rating of any politician. Many of the people he motivated to go to the polls were not just Republicans, but independents and Democrats who wanted to see him defeated. No other candidate, not even Hillary Clinton, has higher unfavorables than Donald Trump.
This has grave implications if Trump, with plurality of Republican voters, becomes the nominee. He will be so polarizing that he will draw more new people to come out against him than for him, as he did in Iowa. Part of it is his positions on the issues, but a lot of it is his immature and acerbic personality. Calling women bimbos is not presidential. Nor is calling voters stupid or losers, or talking about how he is so great that he could shoot people and not lose support.
Those "yuuuge" crowds that Trump draws at rallies? Most don't end up voting for him. But his style is clearly energizing people to come out and vote against him.

I love this!
So unexpected!!!
LOL!
Judging by todays tweets Donald is not happy with only two thirds of primary voters in opposition to him.
Oh Washington, New York AND LA/SFO is determined to destroy him!
And then Cruz - as soon as possible.
Staker again. He comes up with an anti-Trump article almost every day on American Thinker.
In other news:
Meet Chad C. Sweet, Ted Cruz’s campaign chairman, former DoD/CIA/Goldman Sachs/Homeland Security.
Sweet co-founded the Chertoff Group with former Bush and Obama administration Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff.
As a leader of the Chertoff Group, Sweet “advocated for expanding NSA metadata collection.”

Meet Ted’s ex-CIA PR guy, Dan P. Gabriel. Gabriel is involved in SIGINT aka interception - which is turned into propaganda. His twitter handle is @danpgabriel and he was one of the people pushing the angle that it was confirmed to the Cruz campaign that Carson was dropping out. After called out on the lie, the agent deleted the tweet and denies everything in typical spook fashion:
Ted Cruz PR CONFIRMED government agent! Actively working for Soros & US Army! Rabbit hole time...
Well he did win something in Iowa afterall. Way to go Don.
Yes. He is really upset with the voters because they are not appreciating his self-funding of his campaign..........stupid voters..........didn’t he call Iowa voters stupid long before the primary?
IMHO, not a way to win votes..........but then, Trump is not a politician, right?
Just sayin..........
RE: He comes up with an anti-Trump article almost every day on American Thinker.
Take it from this Cruz supporter — Trump was actually my second choice among the GOP lot until he started to turn me off when he opened his big fat trap ( and nope, his feud with Megyn Kelly was not it ).
Calling Ben Carson akin to a child molester, saying that Cruz might not even be an American citizen qualified to be Senator, and now demanding a recount in Iowa ...
And then we have him openly supporting universal healthcare ( and not explaining how this is going to be paid for ), and still adamantly insisting that government has the right to seize private property for commercial development.
All of the above COMBINED as only made him my LAST CHOICE now. I will reluctantly vote for him if it comes down to Trump vs Hillary.
But that’s not because I enthusiastically support him. It’s because the alternatives are worse.
Iowa is Iowa, and if it meant anything President Huckabee would be posing for his statue instead of folding his tent after Iowa voters dumped on him 8 years later.
Had Trump won, he would have one more delegate than he does today, which in the end probably won’t be very significant. Now we will see what the other 99% of voters in the country think.
He expanded on that last night. He’s not blaming voters but thinks they’re missing this extremely important facet of his campaign. He said he doesn’t think it’s a consideration when voters go in the booth yet it might be the most important part of his campaign, that he’s not owned.
"How stupid are the people of Iowa?"
The premise of this story is flawed. One could just as easily argue that the extra 50 percent (or one third of the total) were the ones who voted for Trump. Or that the 50 percent came to vote against Rubio. The point is, the statement that the extra 50 percent came to vote against Trump is just a plain unfounded assertion.
RE: Yes. He is really upset with the voters because they are not appreciating his self-funding of his campaign....
No matter how rich he is, when it comes to the eventual general elections, assuming he becomes the nominee, he’s still going to need support from the GOP and contributions from the general electorate ( including Cruz supporters ).
His billions are NOT LIQUID and tied up in ASSETS and his own brand name. I highly doubt he is going to sell his hotels, buildings and golf courses at a loss in order to raise money to fund his campaign.
Hillary is purported to be able to raise $2.5 Billion .
See here: http://nypost.com/2015/04/14/hillarys-2-5-billion-obscene-fundraising-goal/
I doubt that Trump has that much LIQUID money to match the Clinton machine.
He better not turn off supporters of the other candidates. He will need their financial support eventually.
This is looking a lot like Limbaugh's "Operation Chaos".
Stanford 45 -16 Iowa
But at least Carly was rooting for Iowa.
And yet The Donald has admitted to trying to "own" politicians. And his donation history shows this. Trump is the poster child of crony capitalism. He's been part of the problem, just on the other side of the fence. And voters see through this.
Stupid premise as he never was on the ballot in IOWA before.
