So they managed to drill a hole a little less than 2600 feet in water that was a bit shallower than that (appx. 700 meters). Offshore wells go a lot deeper than that in water a lot deeper. Maybe they rented their drilling rig from the wrong outfit.
Sounds like they weren’t just drilling like would be done for oil and gas but taking core samples.
