Rubio did almost 50% better in Iowa than he was supposed to do, while Cruz, Trump, and Carson all underperformed their peak polling.

The other candidates know this, and are intelligently pointing their knives in his direction.

The candidate who does the unexpected gets the attention.

Don't worry - Trump will say something outrageous again to get his attention back.

The media now has an excuse to ignore Trump. Out of sight, out of mind.

Trump was supposed to beat Cruz by eight points, and Rubio by sixteen. He lost to Cruz by four, and beat Rubio by two. That means Cruz outperformed his expectations relative to Trump by 12 points, and Rubio did so by fourteen. Hardly much of a gap. And Trump never touched Rubio.

No-one ever cares about the team that lost Game 7 of the League Championship Series by two runs when they were supposed to lose by six; They care about the team that came from five runs down to WIN.
