One thing to consider is that Chris's wife is running for Congress. He probably remembered that when Joe asked him to confirm the ORIGINAL prediction. Suddenly he remembered that he had put his wife's political career in jeopardy by predicting a Bernie win so had to backtrack even though he obviously does believe that Bernie will win.

If he hadn't backtracked, his wife probably would have HIT him when he got home.

The odd thing was I read the lead on this thread at the same time as I was reading the thread on getting stoned every day for five years and the two were melded in my mind by the vision of Chris Matthews.
