The new VICE special "Fighting ISIS," which first airs at 10 PM EST this Sunday on HBO, is an hour-long deep dive into the current state of Iraq. The current state of Iraq is not good. Since the US invasion toppled Saddam Hussein and George W. Bush declared "Mission Accomplished," a series of mistakes made by both the US and local authorities turned the country into an incubator of extremism and violence and led to the rise of ISIS.
In the documentary, VICE reporter Ben Anderson embeds with various groups fighting ISIS, interviews captured jihadist fighters, and investigates the troubles that have led to the region's destabilization. We won't give too much away here—you should really tune in this Sunday night—but suffice it to say that the soundbite solutions offered by some bloodthirsty American politicians isn't going to make things better.

I would take ANYTHING VICE said with a grain of salt.
They are liberals, but there’s still good info regarding ISIS on their website. They interview Bush administration officials and also showed how Obama’s policies have been a disaster.
If you only want to get information from ‘conservative media sources’ ... good luck! We’ve seen with this election Fox barely qualifies.
Uhh, It also mattered that Obama simply packed up all US troops and departed. That created quite a vacuum of power, particularly among the Sunnis.
I left after the theme music/introduction. Clips of Cheney, Rumsfeld, GW “Mission Accomplished” Bush...NO clips of 0 talking about ISIL, the “JV team”, or refusing to use the phrase “radical islam”.
They go right into the midst of the action - their footage and interviews are good, even if their interpretation is not so hot.
I have often watched Vice News reports on youtube, without having to cringe at liberal bias/stupidity.
Being on HBO probably required them to advance the liberal narrative more than they normally do, and an election year is when their in-house lefties will be more likely to spend the corporate credibility to advance their parties political prospects.
Bush never claimed “Mission Accomplished”. The crew of the aircraft carrier he landed on put up a banner about “THEIR” mission being accomplished.

I don't know how many times I've had to make the same point. . .but the Left just keeps the Big Lie going over and over. . .truth NEVER matters.
McBuff: Keep making this point and using the “Mission Accomplished” lie as one example of the dishonesty and corruption of the mainstream media as well as of the Leftist media.
It is something that they cannot deny is demonstratively false, so let’s slam them in the face every time it appears.
In fact, the best thing to do is to get about 10-12 examples from leftist publications and the MSM of blatant lies, and list them in letters to the editor, on talk shows, and here at FR.
Getting examples from local newspapers (state, regional, or city) are important because we won’t see the crap that they are writing unless FR people report on it here.

Another false narrative that came out in the interview, that somehow we installed Maliki in power. It seemed that Maliki was a result of us not installing anyone in power, his coming to power was the result of fairly free elections. Since the population of Iraq is overwhelmingly Shiite, of course the Shiites are going to win free elections. The Left for decades always talked about democracy, when someone actually did something to promote democracy, then they are against it. This interview is a good example of the incoherence of the Left’s worldview.
first off..... BUSH did not fly the banner with the words MISSION ACCOMPLISHED ...
the ship itsef ahd performed a mission and accomplished it and the capt flew the banner...

in fact iraq was stable when bush left office and obama gave it ALL away...

Barack Obama has had numerous “Mission Accomplished” moments. He boasted of regime change in Libya (which was no threat to the US), he boasted that Al Qaeda was on the run, he boasted that terrorism was down (just before the attacks in Paris and California).
But BOOSH, he lied and said “mission accomplished” when Iraq’s regime changed (Saddam’s people never did take it back).
Vice isn’t into grains of salt, more like grams of coke and hipster beards.
Journalists communicating with terrorists is a reason that the media was so against the tapping of stateside calls in communication with known terrorists.
Vice TV’s executive producer is Bill Maher, so anything they do is suspect.
