First on CNN: Main Cruz super PACs struggled to raise money in fall and winter
CNN ^ | January 31st, 2016 | By Theodore Schleifer

(CNN)The main super PACs supporting Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's presidential campaign only raised a few million dollars in the second half of 2015, a modest sum that far trails the huge checks they collected in the opening days of the campaign.

Cruz's super PACs, Keep the Promise, have raised only around $2 million in the second half of 2015, according to two people familiar with the figures. The groups have raised up to $5 million in the month of January, the sources said.

That's a far cry from the $38 million raised in the first half of 2015, most of which came in the opening days of Cruz's bid.

That sum for Keep the Promise is a significant slowdown and shows the group has not expanded much beyond the original anchor donors that made the group into a surprise story of early 2015. Three families are responsible for $36 million of the roughly $40 million the super PACs raised in 2015, and it does not appear additional donors of the same scale have been landed during the second half of 2015.

Texas alone will cost $25mil in advertising, minimum.

Same with Florida. South Carolina can be had for $15mil.

Seems Ted Cruz could use some friends.

Aw cripes, I can just see my inbox filling up with Beg-o-grams from Heidi...even though I’ve told them to stop.

Sorry, but Cruz has one of the worst campaign teams I’ve seen. For the past 2-3 weeks it’s been blunder after blunder. It was only this morning, I saw that the Senator’s judgment is not far off from theirs. They are totally lacking coherency.

My wife was a 2 time Cruz donor, and she got pissed at the New York Values attack, even though we haven’t lived their in over 28 years. We lived in Texas and 5 other states and loved all of the Americans along the way.

I especially loved Texas, if somebody messes with Texas in front of me they better be prepared to get bruised you don’t talk trash about my fellow Americans like Ted Cruz did about where we lived and have friends and relatives.

It was stupid of Ted since so many EX New Yorkers live in Florida, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Arizona, California, New Jersey and yes I met lots in Texas too.

Somehow I feel they feel like I do, you don’t hate your own folks, we are all Americans.

Need to add one more thing, you can’t unsubscribe from Ted Cruz, both my wife and I tried so far twice and yet we still get Teds solicitations for money.

Ted must be desperate for money.

Let’s worry about the contributions directly to the candidate.

Those are the voters.

Cruz’ campaign manager is Jeff Roe. He has a high win ratio overall, but he has notable losses, including Huckabee and Perry.

"Let’s worry about the contributions directly to the candidate."

He spent the $100mil in Iowa. "Ground Game" is always hard money.

He had 1000 staffers in state for a month, 12,000 volunteers...plus ads.

He's blown his wad.

From what I’ve seen he hasn’t done much right in the past few weeks ... or maybe it’s the SuperPacs. Whichever, it reflects back (and badly) on the candidate. Proof will be in the proverbial pudding on Monday night.

I don’t think this really matters. His sugar daddies will just kick in another $10-15 million each if Cruz is competitive.

No one could have helped the Huckster or Perry win. Means nothing.

I agree.

If he wins one of the first 4 and finishes 2nd in the rest, he'll have money for the SEC.

"Just enough".

But if he loses Iowa and NH by a large margin, he almost HAS to win SC and NV before they'll release another penny.

I’m not a pro, and I’m going on limited info, but it appears Jeff Roe is very good at running statewide campaigns and not so hot at national campaigns. But however that may be, it does look like the Cruz missteps are piling up lately.

Cruz is not ready for prime time. Even though the primaries get a little rough, I think it is a good thing, because it weeds out the weak ones. The General will be 10 times worse.

Cruz is running for president of Iowa. Won’t last long after that.

Cruz Mega Donor

On the one hand, Mercer’s support is fantastic for Cruz for all the obvious reasons (having a billionaire in your corner is nice). On the other hand, Mercer’s hedge fund—Renaissance Technologies—recently faced an unflattering congressional investigation, the results of which indicated that it used complex and unorthodox financial structures to dramatically lower its tax burden. This drew scorching bipartisan criticism from investigators on the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

Yes, the President of the United States is supposed to be the President for ALL the states, not just certain select ones.
