I think she knew, even before she married Bill, exactly what Bill was. She chose to ignore it because she recognized that he had charisma with the majority he interacted with. That his charisma would propel her further than she could possibly accomplish on her own.

I should have added, she miscalculated big time!!!

Also, what gives her fits more than Bill's reputation, is the fact that she is losing ground quickly to someone like Bernie Sanders. She was already in a state of shock losing to an unknown named Barak Obama, and now, that Looney Tune from Vermont is set to crush her dreams of power yet again.

Twice in one decade may prove to be what actually throws her into the deep-end.
