Sonia Braga was in Moon Over Parador as well. Lovely when she was younger.

The scene with a helicopter whirring its blades was a direct slap at Reagan, though funny.

The irony was that Reagan helped usher Stroessner out the door of Paraguay as the country’s dictator (which was largely the basis for Moon Over Parador).

Stroessner had an interesting history with Mengele and other related Rat Liners. So the Nazi themed aspects of the R. Julia character were also tied in.

I don’t know enough about Richard Dreyfus to say he’s all this or all that.
But the quotes in your post are interesting insofar as I get a somewhat different interpretation of what he’s saying, than yours.
Seems to me you’re reading things into Dreyfus’ comments that he never said nor implied.
I don’t see any support for Obama, or any indication that Dreyfus ever voted for Obama, in the quotes you cited. I see nothing to indicate he’s a
Democrat. Do you have some other information to support that assertion?
Seems to me he is now —and was at the time of these comments—a Republican. He was complaining about corrupt RINOs selling out the Republican Party and the country.
In the original post, he goes to hear Cruz speak.
As you did note, Dreyfus **seems** to lean favorably toward Cruz, while wisely declining to give an endorsement when the nosy reporter asks him to. In particular, he indicates that he favors a strong stance on the Constitution and is looking for a candidate who feels the same.
And he’s said he wants the old Republican Party back!
Thus, he’s a conservative seeking a conservative candidate, trying to make up his own mind whether **or not** Cruz might be that guy. Not letting the polls decide for him.
So checking out Cruz doesn’t seem at all contradictory.

Richard Dreyfuss was always a flaming lib. Surprised to see him at any GOP event.

Dreyfus, when asked, told Cavuto he leaned heavily towards the Democrats. He didn’t say anything directly negative about Obama because he pretty much approved of Obama. Which in turn makes anything said by Dreyfus with regards to the Constitution just so much posturing.

What’s unclear about “the old Republican Party”?
Wouldn’t that be the one without RINOs?
A Republic is by definition a representative government, elected to represent OUR interests.
RINOs don’t. They’re collaborating with the opposition and serving their own interests.

To some people the “old GOP” means “Rockerfeller RINOism” rather than conservatism.

There is no way he supports Cruz...my reaction exactly - I caught only part of the Cavuto interview, but apparently Dreyfus said that he would be in favor of a 90% tax levy on "the rich" - no conservative in my book.....

That would really be perfect. Cruz IS the perfect candidate for long-time far-far-left-winger Dreyfus. Sad. Cruz didn’t throw him out? Did he sit beside Beck?

here

Yes, I am aware that Dreyfuss is a loathsome figure, and I can't stand the guy. He is a far-left, self-hating, anti-Israel Jew (and a strong candidate for lunch in Tul Karem). Just like Leonard Nimoy, he was a strong supporter of the anti-Israel group, American Friends of Peace Now, which supports the anti-Semitic boycott of Israel. And he's openly said he's proud of voicing his baseless criticism of Israel (and of playing anti-Semitic caricatures of Jews). His kids’ politics are similar. His son, for example, works for Marxist "Mother Jones."... Debbie Schlussel, June 19, 2015

Yea not sure as I don’t pay too much attention to these types but if I were to guess, he does seem to be smart enough (and now old enough) to see where liberal policies harm liberty and ultimately his wallet.

Julia is the daughter of a billionaire. Her parents divorced and she is the usual Hollywood lib. Just guessing but I don’t think Richard is a billionaire.

Well, Deyfuss LOVED W and hated Reagan

In that case, he belongs at a Jeb rally. Dreyfuss would not only be the sole celebrity there, he'd be one of the few people present as well.

“I can’t say I disagree with the guy. I mean, I’m looking for the old GOP, really as a hedge against some whacko (Trump) getting elected. Of course, I wouldn’t regard Cruz as old GOP, since he makes Reagan look like Bernie Sanders. My Republican friends, I do so wish you’d managed to dust off Mitt Romney for this election cycle, because the guys you’ve got right now (’guys’ because Carly Fiorina is digging her own grave, much as Michelle Bachmann did four years ago) just aren’t going to be able to turn it around between June and November.” Richard Dreyfuss said.
