Anyone paying attention when all of this was going on (like I thought we were on FR?!) should remember that Ted Cruz was the lone voice of sanity we were all thankful for then. We understood what he was doing and praised him for his brilliant tactics. Now we have FReepers against him. That only means you have left him... he has not left you.

Well said!

The poison pill he proposed was denying the illegals any path to citizenship, which meant they would never become Rat voters. It killed the bill. Now the landscape has changed because the Trump supporters think that Trump is not only going to build the wall, but will deport the illegals. The reality is Trump will give legal status and probably a path to citizenship once they leave and fill out the proper paper work at the border before they re-enter the USA.

Cruz is saying he will build the wall, begin enforcement of the law and no legalized status for existing illegals.

While Trump has been talking a good talk about opposing “Comprehensive immigration reform” (amnesty), Cruz has been doing it: Cruz has actually been fighting the fight, and often alone, against the cheap labor express and its allies.
We can’t have a worthwhile discussion here without willingness to stipulate to facts.

‘If the government allows them to stay, but denies them citizenship, it isn’t amnesty.’

Every reasonably sane, intelligent conservative used to acknowledge that as soon as Congress makes them legal, a judge will grant them citizenship. It wouldn’t take any time at all. The Cruz plan is simply a way of giving illegals citizenship while being able to blame it on the judiciary.

I'll have to take you word for that.

For the record, I, a reasonably sane, intelligent conservative, am an exception to the rule.

The proof is Jeff Sessions, who led the charge with Ted Cruz to kill the bill. He backs up every word of Ted Cruz’s account of how they killed the Gang of Eight bill.

It's amazing that so many conservatives don't want to understand this.

My comments weren't addressing the issues. My comments were regarding the messaging.

In a crowded field, Trump has gotten his message out in short, simple, frequently repeated terms. I call them "brands" that people recognize and relate to.

Cruz HAD to have known this issue needed to be settled once and for all. I actually think he's in the right on this issue, but he has been terrible at communicating that.

The vast majority of the country, probably the majority of Republican primary voters, don't even know who Jeff Sessions is.

Obamacare is unConstitutional, but the SC found otherwise. Given the liberal leanings of the judiciary, it really would not take long for a liberal/Dem judge to grant citizenship to the Dems newest reliable voting block.

You mean after personally insulting every candidate in sight those supporters aren't liking him? Who would have thought it?

The Rats have to be eating this up. They are going to give us the worst candidate ever and if Trump is the nominee at best it's a toss up whether Trump can win.

‘I’ll speak for myself thank you. Lying for whatever reason is almost never good.’

When Muslims do it they call it taqiyya. The Bible carves out no exception for cases of “political expediency.”

Enough to make your head swim many times over. Here is a basic definition of amnesty from the online Black's Law Dictionary:

A sovereign act of pardon and oblivion for past acts, granted by a government to all persons (or to certain persons) who have been guilty of crime or delict, generally political offenses

I think an amnesty is only a pardon of past crimes. And there are criminal and civil penalties for illegal entry into the US and illegal presence.

How do these politicians leap from a pardon for past crimes to legalizing the status of illegal entrants and allowing them to stay? It would seem the proper actions after the amnesty would be to say, we aren't going to prosecute you, but now we must begin removal procedures.

And there are penalties for illegal entry and illegal presence in the US.

8 U.S. Code § 1325 - Improper entry by alien

Definitely a lot of sunshine conservatives these days. I understand being pissed off at the establishment, but throwing one of the few conservatives in the Senate who has been fighting the good fight for us all along makes no sense to me.

You believe no judge would grant citizenship to illegals after they were legalized?

He did NOT support it. He introdued a poison pill amendment. Senator Sessiosn, the leading amnesty opponent, says Cruz has consistently opposed amnesty. Senator Schumer, the chief sponsor of the Gang of Eight bill, says that it would have passed, but for Ted Cruz.

Schumer said that there could be no bill without the path to citizenship — it was Cruz’s amendment that aimed to remove that provision.

Those are the facts.

That's correct. I already said so, in so many words.

But, I'll take your word for it that I'm a fluke, outlier, and all the rest of the sane conservatives with legal background disagree with me.

The poison pill was handily defeated. To say it killed comprehensive amnesty would be like saying, the man was killed by a poison pill he refused to swallow.

It’s great that you have such unfailing faith in the judiciary.

I'll have what EVER you're drinking!

I guess you didn't hear the Democrat callers that were calling in to C-SPAN last night on their open lines? People denigrated the Kenyan refugee in the rainbow hut, and said they were reregistering to REP. so they could vote for Trump. They said a lot of other patriotic things to justify their switch.

Voters chose Obama because of the color- black.

Voters are choosing Trump because of the colors- red, white and blue.

The people aren't buying the fundamental transformation of the last seven years that put America on her knees, and they know very well who did it, they know who helped him zealously to get it done, and they also know what criminal organization they ALL belong to, so there isn't going to be a toss up, ESPECIALLY if it's Supreme Allied Commander General Donald J. Trump, as the nominee.

Take it up with Senator Schumer. That’s what HE said.

What Schumer is saying is that if Cruz’ amendment had passed, it would have killed the bill. But Cruz’ amendment was effortlessly defeated, and comprehensive amnesty passed in the Senate. The bill subsequently died in the House, as a direct result of Brat defeating Cantor.
