Anyone paying attention when all of this was going on (like I thought we were on FR?!) should remember that Ted Cruz was the lone voice of sanity we were all thankful for then. We understood what he was doing and praised him for his brilliant tactics. Now we have FReepers against him. That only means you have left him... he has not left you.

Bears repeating. Bold emphasis is mine is mine.

Not sure what you mean by that. What she in effect admitted is that she had researched his record, that she knew he was always against amnesty, and then went ahead and tried to make it look love he held the opposite position at the debate anyway. She is pure and deliberate scum.

“If the government allows them to stay, but denies them citizenship, it isn’t amnesty.”

As Rush as OFTEN pointed out, if they are allowed to stay by law, they will become citizens shortly. Rush said the democrats would take that to court two or three days after the bill was passed.

The proof is Jeff Sessions, who led the charge with Ted Cruz to kill the bill. He backs up every word of Ted Cruz's account of how they killed the Gang of Eight bill.

First, it would seem that Ted Cruz was being willfully dishonest in his efforts in that while on the one hand he was supporting the bill while offering the poison pill he was hoping to kill the bill. That seems like one explanation.

Second, Rand Paul (either truthfully or just because he's campaigning) disputes Ted's story.

From today's Washington Post

Cruz's Record On Immigration Can't Be Redeemed By Sen. Jeff Sessions

Some of you Cruz supporters, please explain exactly what Ted means by the term “amnesty”.

I'll speak for myself thank you. Lying for whatever reason is almost never good.

Lying is why and how he gets into these things he doesn't know how to get out of. He's having to explain his lying (what you call "brilliant tactics") almost everyday and it only sounds like more lies, to cover the lie. He admitted to lying so now no one trusts anything he says including the obvious deception of his citizenship.

Rand Paul knows what he is saying is not true. He’s just mad at Ted for stealing his mantle, and the having his dad pick Ted Cruz over him.

Understood. My initial remark had to do with how Cruz defines “amnesty,” and my second “remark” (just a link to legal permanent resident) reflects the fact that what Cruz calls “not amnesty” (let ‘em stay, just don’t let ‘em vote) is theoretically possible, and holding the line depends on Congress and the courts.

If I understand it correctly, Cruz's "solution" would create a permanent underclass. It would be a source of cheap labor and who would not have to go through learning enough about the US to pass a citizenship test. There'd be no requirement to learn English, pass the test and become a citizen, or leave.

How's that a good thing? It seems right in line with his (not too long ago) position of wanting H1B visas increased five-fold. That's not "US jobs for US citizens". It's "a steady source of cheap labor to undermine US workers".

And in case you haven’t noticed, if we are going to win, we are going to have to join the battle the left is waging against us at every level of government...this includes the use of poison pills

Cruz appeals to the conservative “checklist” voter

To other types of voters he is unappealing on a personality basis

The proof is Jeff Sessions, who led the charge with Ted Cruz to kill the bill. He backs up every word of Ted Cruz's account of how they killed the Gang of Eight bill.

And yet, all signs seem to point towards Sessions lending his support to Trump.

This is a communication issue. By now, Cruz should have developed a succinct message that would resonate and put the issue to bed.

Quick quiz to show how important this is:

What does Trump think of Bush? Low Energy

What's Trumps position on illegal immigration? We're going to build a wall.

How is government doing right now?We have stupid people running the country.

Now, put aside any bias or even whether you believe this. How has Trump communicated his message in comparison to the rest of the candidates?

This poison-pill thing isn't new. And yet, it's still a major topic of the debate because Ted Cruz hasn't killed it. Same with NBC; it's still fuzzy for a lot of people because Cruz hasn't killed it.

Actually, Ted Cruz has much better favorability ratings than Donald Trump...

“If I understand it correctly, Cruz’s “solution” would create a permanent underclass. “

You and I both know that the situation would not persist as there would be a call to fully legalize them in the last little step remaining we call “amnesty”.

The problem is Donald Trump’s record up until six months ago strongly suggest he is nothing more than a campaign conservative, and we conervatives are the ones who are supposed see through the shtick and point it out.

“Making proposals to legal documents under false pretenses isn’t a simple white lie...it’s fraud.”

Man oh man there is just a non-stop barrage of stupid comments on this. It would take a team of people to address them all.

Do you even have a clue what a poison pill is?

Stop posting non-sense. Your comment is one of those that is so bad it is “not even wrong”.

No one even remotely considers a poison pill fraudulent. If you do, you come from some alternate universe.

There is nothing illegal or immoral about trying to stop or change a flawed bill by offering amendments even if you know it will in all likelihood kill the bill.
