Trumpless Debate Second Lowest Rated of Primary
The Hill ^ | 1/29/2016 | Harper Neidig

Early Nielsen ratings show that Thursday night's Fox News debate was the second-lowest rated debate of the primary season, according to a CNN report.

Without Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump participating, the debate got an 8.4 Nielsen rating, according to the report.

That's better than the previous debate hosted by Fox Business Network, which got a 7.4 Nielsen rating. But that was a strong number for Fox Business Network, which is less widely available than Fox News and CNN. Thursday's rating would be much smaller than the 15.9 Nielsen rating for the first GOP debate hosted by Fox News in August.

Most people probably watched American Idol.

What were the ratings at the nearly extemporaneous Trump event at CNN?

The thing that was amusing is that all the Trump followers - who apparently watched the Trump Show where their boy could swan around unchallenged - flooded over to the GOP debate thread afterwards and immediately started attacking the other candidates even though they admitted having watched none of it. Shows you where the Trump folks are coming from.

The debate still did better then Trumps event but considering it was put together in 24 hours...still he did some damage.

Yes, less money to be spent on Murdoch’s leftist and globalist causes, this is good.

“I hope Kelly gave Roger a big kiss, she sure screwed him.”

Last part of your sentence is probably true, in more ways than one.

How did they lose money? Advertisers lost viewers, but Fox had already sold the commercial spots. Fox may not be able to charge the same money for the next debate if Trump doesn’t show, but pretty sure the only one financially screwed by this were the advertisers who were hoping for a 15 share and got an 8 share.

CNN wasn’t allowed to broadcast it beginning to end.

Fox ‘s ratings were actually good. 11-12 million for a debate is very good. Not 25 million as before.

So still they did well.

BUT with all the hoopla , how many “checked in” ? People arent disciplined enough to not watch and add to the numbers. So the ones saying they were going to boycott added to the ratings when they “peeked “ in.
