Turkish Airlines flight from Houston diverted to Ireland following bomb alert
NEWS Turkish Airlines flight from Houston diverted to Ireland following bomb alert Turkish Airlines The Turkish Airlines flight is being kept at a distance as investigators search the plane. KTRK Updated 1 hr 54 mins ago A flight which departed from Houston to Istanbul has been diverted to Ireland after a bomb alert.
Turkish Airlines says Flight 34 was diverted to Shannon Airport after a handwritten threat was discovered upon the plane as it cross the Atlantic Ocean.
The airline says an investigation is underway on board that Boeing 777. The plane was taken to a remote taxiway. Airline officials say the flight will continue to Istanbul at the conclusion of that investigation.
There are 207 people on board, including two infants.
Right after London’s plot.
You know, every time I see a plane diverted and an investigation launched, I have to think of all the hours the people on board wasted having their luggage and persons inspected, scanned and touched.
If there is so little confidence in these wasteful procedures, why do them? If they are worried that ground crews or contractors might have planted a bomb, why are they not inspecting those people?
Either make the security work (are they up to detecting 40% of the test devices yet?) or discontinue it.

No bomb found on diverted Turkish Airlines flight from Texas | Reuters

ISTANBUL/DUBLIN A Turkish Airlines flight from Houston, Texas, diverted to Shannon, Ireland, on Sunday was found to have no explosive devices on board and would take off to Istanbul soon, a spokesman for the flag carrier said.
The plane, bound for Turkey’s largest city, was diverted after a piece of paper with “bomb” written on it was discovered in the toilet, a spokesman for Turkish Airlines said.
Nothing was found in the search of the aircraft in Shannon, the Turkish Airlines spokesman said, adding that the plane would take off again to Istanbul.
An airport spokesman said the Boeing 777 touched down without incident and all 209 passengers, plus crew, disembarked safely.
“The incident is now the subject of a follow up investigation from an Garda Siochana (Irish police),” he said.
Turkish Airlines has been targeted with a series of hoax bomb warnings over the last year.

Turkish Airlines Chief Predicts Growth Despite Terror Attacks
Airline sees 21% traffic growth this year and plans to continue its rapid pace of fleet expansion

TEHRAN--A recent terror attack in Turkey isn't denting growth plans at the country's flag carrier as it recorded only a small drop off in bookings in the wake of this month's bombing in Istanbul, the chief executive of Turkish Airlines said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Sunday.
An Islamic State suicide bomber killed 10 German tourists in the heart of Istanbul earlier this month, raising concern that the country's important tourism sector could be badly hit. Egypt has suffered a sharp drop in tourism in the wake of the Oct. 31 downing of a Russian jetliner that departed from the beach resort of Sharm El Sheikh, killing all 224 people onboard.
Turkish Air has flights from a number of US cities. They are often the cheapest advertised flights to Europe, with layovers in Istanbul. I have no interest in trying them just to save a few dollars.
Coming soon — nonstop flights from Tehran to NYC, Wash DC, and LA on their brand new 114 Airbus planes. That’ll be fun.
Only a few passengers were in the toilet so haul them off to be questioned. When they find the moron who left the paper, let each passenger give him a swirly and toss him out the door.
