In the old days they were called retarded and sent to institutions.
I’m going to stand over here with this guy....
(Can anyone name the peer reviewed, scientific, repeatable, and internationally accepted testing regimen to diagnose autism? Oh, yeah. There isn’t one.)
You and your son and your family are in my prayers.
“Surely you’re not trying to equate the behavior of dogs to humans with mental illness?”
The dog was a puppy.
Like a young human, the young dog was full of energy.
Lowered vitamin D levels would come from not playing outside and “burning off” excess childhood energy.
There is also a chemical relationship between Vitamin D and the stress hormone cortisol and Vitamin D may lower the damaging effects of cortisol.
I hate being bi-polar.
It’s AWESOME!
If one believes there is an increase then it would be wise to consider a list of changes in childhood:
Moms generally working instead of raising and molding their children, more sugar in more foods, less fat in milk, more stress at home and in school, more two “high-drive” adult marriages [two overbearing adults are more likely to produce overbearing children], smaller family size, less playtime, TV channel switching by remote, more than one TV in a house, etc.
As for toxins in foods, many farmers dish out more chemicals than even a family doctor. Modern plant cultivation is really a planned application of chemicals. Learn what a farmer must use on say apple or peach trees.
Granted, a lot of kids don’t go outdoors the way kids used to. However, in the late 1980’s the medical community started recommending that pregnant women avoid direct sunshine and that they also keep their babies out of direct sunshine. Pregnant women and young mothers are the most likely patient group to pay close attention to what their doctor is telling them. Sunscreen lotions have also become much more effective over that time, due primarily to the advice to avoid direct sun.
Since then, autism cases have increased significantly. Some of that might be due to shifting diagnostic criteria, but a lot of it is due to a real increase in the number of cases.
Dr. Cannell’s theory that vitamin D deficiency underlies the increased incidence of autism also manages to incorporate a number of other perceived causes, including the suspicion that vaccines have something to do with the increase. His paper is well worth reading by anyone interested in autism.

Same thing for my oldest daughter. She’s 14 and has the mental capacity of a 2-year old. She’s non-verbal and not potty-trained, though God knows we’ve tried.
For those who doubt... Trust us- the struggle IS real.
“Autism is definitely real, as is the increase in the numbers of babies born with it.”
Do you know the average age when diagnosis is made? Can it be made at birth or does is present later on?
My probably whack-o reason for its existence is that babies now are so removed from their mothers than in the past that they don’t have that important connection in their formative years.
Babies go to daycare when they’re three months old. Strange environment, lots of strangers. If that daycare full of strangers doesn’t work out after a couple months, the parents find another one and dump them there. And so it goes. It’s convenient for the kids, but what’s it doing to children’s emotional state?
They ride in cars, which can be scary for a baby or child, relegated to a back seat facing rear. They can’t even see Mommy, much less be held by her.
Who knows...?
Interesting. Thanks, MM.
You can tell within six months. Autistic children have trouble tracking your movements and responding to their parents’ voices. Also they have limited emotional responses such as smiling.
If course, what you are talking about may result in development al delays but nothing so severe as the autism I have seen. So, there is some basis for your theory.
