Charlotte Rampling has waded into the Oscars 2016 diversity row, claiming the debate is "racist to whites". The British actress, who received a best actress nod for her role in 45 Years, suggests that perhaps performances from the black actors snubbed from the nominations list were not good enough to be recognised.
Hollywood has been up in arms since the Academy Award nominations were announced on 14 January, with several black actors including Michael B Jordan, Idris Elba and Will Smith, failing to receive nominations despite putting on acclaimed performances. In an interview with French radio station Europe 1, Rampling said of the controversy: "It is racist to whites."
She added: "One can never really know, but perhaps the black actors did not deserve to make the final list. Why classify people? These days everyone is more or less accepted. People will always say: 'Him, he's less handsome'; 'Him, he's too black'; 'He is too white'... someone will always be saying 'You are too' [this or that]. But do we have to take from this that there should be lots of minorities everywhere?"

I agree completely. Having said that, I hope she’s prepared for the tsunami headed her way. Batten down the hatches!

Not only that, creating rules to ‘ensure black actors are nominated’ is incredibly insulting to blacks in general, as it would imply they can’t do it on merit alone.
And more than that, when a great black actor gets an award on merit alone it would be forever tainted as the ‘token winner’ and doubts would remain on he/she winning the award based on merit, or based on ‘affirmative action’
A rule ‘to ensure black nominations’ is just another example of a centralized ‘nanny state’ or central elitist planning, which will cause more problems that it purports to solve.
I have met people that think one can not be racist because they are non-white. This is far from the truth.
Just look at our Universities, where meetings and rallies are held, supposedly ‘against racism’, and on the door it says ‘whites are not allowed in’

Actually, she is right. For those who don’t know her work, she is one of the most accomplished and versatile actresses in the world. Her nomination, at age 69, at least shows that the Academy is not “ageist.” (haha)
Just out of curiosity, for those objecting to the omission of black performers this year, which nominees do they think should be bumped in favor of a black nominee? Those on the list gave some stunning performances.

Like most British actresses, she has aged gracefully and not been Botoxed and “filled” until she was unrecognizable.
Ted Danson did that back in 1993 at the request of his then girlfriend Whoopi Goldberg at a Roast held in her honor. The likes of Roger Ebert ripped him apart. A fine example of libs eating other libs.

I adore Charlotte Rampling. “The Night Porter” w/ her & Dirk Bogarde is incredible. I think it took an amazing amount of courage to say what she said. She has always marched to the beat of her own drum........the faux outrage that she dared to speak her mind won’t faze her.
