There’s no reason for Cruz and family to be without healthcare insurance coverage, COBRA from his wife’s position, coverage offered to Senators by the government, there were and are numerous options available to him. As a result, it sounds like a political move, he feels our pain, or something like that.

Why would people say that’s a lie? It happens all the time. Worse is when your trusted doctor says he won’t accept the lousy insurance you are stuck with.

It would be awesome if Sen. Cruz went to a health share like Liberty Health Share instead! What a great example he would make, turning away from the whole mess and going for a business that is faith and liberty based (you don’t need to be any certian religion), and everyone shares the medical burdens of each other. You really can choose any doctor and any medical provider. They reimburse 100% after the deductible is met, and our deductible for 6 people is only $1500.

Earlier this year, Mr. Cruz signaled he might actually buy an Obamacare plan because his wife, Heidi, decided to take an unpaid leave of absence from Goldman Sachs Group Inc. in Houston, as the senator runs for president. But instead, his family decided to purchase an off-exchange plan on the open market from Texas Blue Cross and Blue Shield.

That's a lie. He stated previously that he had health insurance under his wife's G-S health plan...

Previously, he did. But with his wife on leave from G-S, I'm sure they had to get insurance on their own.

Don't let your CDS make you jump to unsubstantiated conclusions...

We were there earlier this year. Premiums are ridiculous, as is the coverage forced on us. We choose to go without. I haven’t calced what our gov- mandated bribe is.

If he knew his policy was about to end why didn’t he take care of that?

Also I thought BCBS auto reups... or at least sends you warnings...

Something is fishy here.

This is not a COBRA situation - the whole plan was cancelled - the company is no longer offering it because it was financially unsustainable. If you leave a job, you can usually COBRA on their still active, functioning plan. He needs to acquire another policy. BCBS of TX is offering other more restrictive plans, but not the PPO (which give people a broader choice of providers) he evidently was on until it was cancelled.

Actually, didn't he make a big deal out of signing up for Obamacare?

Yes, he did. And Blue Cross just dropped the plan that they were offering through Obamacare in Texas. That doesn't mean Blue Cross dropped all individual plans.

Yep.

Hmmmm....I'm finding this hard to believe. I just got on with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas THIS month, after my former insurance co. stopped carrying health insurance.

Did you get your plan through the exchange? Cruz didn't say BCBS stopped selling all individual plans. He said the plan offered through Obamacare, which is the one he had, was dropped.

I don’t get why this is so hard to believe. First of all, it’s the first month and he doesn’t need health insurance. He is rich. If his child had a catastrophic accident, he is good for it.

Seems like everyone here thinks they shouldn’t have to pay for health care; if we think that, aren’t we basically Bernie Sanders voters????????

Wealthy people can afford to not have health insurance for a month. He will probably find something soon but he doesn’t actually have to.

WHAT?? I thought all those guys in congress have a super duper health insurance and are not required to have obamacare (like the rest of the unwashed)?!

And that is one of the things that makes Cruz different than the rest of the Washington Cartel. He doesn't think Congress should be exempt from the laws the rest of us live by. He hates Obamacare, but if the rest of the country is forced to live with it, he has chosen to live with as well.

You know, if you are a millionaire. And you risk a 695 dollar fine if you don’t have health insurance, and they cannot deny you for having a pre-existing condition, then why would any sane person buy health insurance?

It makes no sense.

A sitting US Senator and does not have health insurance? What do senators pay, like $100 a year for health care?

Idiocy!

Why in God’s name do YOU even care? I don’t give a crap about whether Donald Trump has insurance or “self-insures”. WTF has happened to the minds of the FOLLOWERS of Donald TRUMP (BLESSED IS HIS NAME). Do you care if Cruz uses a specific brand of toothpaste? Should YOU or should I care if Cruz has LIFE insurance? Or if Trump has life insurance? The CULT OF PERSONALITY has destroyed the thinking ability of many!

Actually, I have been following him for quite a while and I remember when all this was in the news. This is one reason that so many Trump supporters so over excited so easily. They haven’t been paying attention to anything except “Obama Gotta Go”. When Trump popped up, saying the same things that people like Cruz, Sessions, Mike Lee, Steve King, etc, have been saying for years now, they think he just thought all this stuff up himself. He didn’t, they just were never listening till now.

I don’t find it hard to believe, but I do find it a stretch, they have several avenues to acquire immediate coverage.

“Couldn’t he COBRA for 18 months if his wife was on leave.”

Sure, but WHY would you? Pay the 695 fine and enjoy the profits. If you get bad sick, like cancer, go buy insurance. Pre-existing conditions don’t matter now.

That's what responsible people do instead of whining in public about it.

So you don't think Obamacare should be an issue in this election? And if it SHOULD be an issue, which I think it must be if we want the next president to help repeal it, then what is wrong with Cruz relating his actual experience in dealing with it to illustrate the problems?

I swear, the CDS on this site is getting unbearable. Trump supporters are supporting government mandates and attacking Cruz for criticizing Obamacare! Pretty soon they will be attacking anyone that does not support an assault weapons ban like Donald!
