New Mexico to Sue EPA Over Mine Spill

New Mexico plans to sue the federal government and the owners of two Colorado mines that were the source of a massive spill last year that contaminated rivers in Utah and other Western states, officials said Thursday.

The New Mexico Environment Department said it filed a notice of its intention to sue the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over the spill. The lawsuit would be a first and also would target the state of Colorado and the owners of the Gold King and Sunnyside mines.

Utah leaders have also reserved the possibility of legal action against the EPA. In a statement issued last fall, Gov. Gary Herbert said the state "will continue to hold the EPA accountable for this mistake, including compensation for the costs we incurred in protecting Utahns from the release."

So we have to pay the EPA's wages and for this sabotage. Yes, I believe it was deliberate. Also believe they will need to hire another 100 people to deal with it.....not counting the lawyers.

And who's gonna pick up the tab?

Get rid of the EPA. It's not necessary.

“The accident prompted harsh criticism of the EPA for failing to take adequate precautions despite warnings that a blowout could occur. But Interior Secretary Sally Jewell said a review by her agency showed the spill was “clearly unintentional.””

There needs to be a parallel criminal prosecution. Some EPA people need to go to jail for causing this spill. This threatened civil suit is to force the EPA to pay for the cleanup.

There’s another case dating back to last September that hasn’t gotten much attention but is of keen interest to licensed engineers. A complaint was filed by an Arizona Congressman against the EPA through the Colorado state government, alleging that the EPA mine project was being run by people who were not licensed to practice as engineers in the state of Colorado.

Would it be possible to take it civil and sue the EPA contractor?

That way if the contractor is on the hot seat they may roll over on the EPA who was pulling the strings.

* Get rid of the EPA. It's not necessary. *

Defund, DEFUND, DEFUND the EPA!

It's worse than unnecessary, it's a detriment.

Six people in a small department could probably protect us from having the pollution that we had in the 1960’s.

No one needs the environazis in the EPA lying to us about the fictitious globull warming nonsense, or protecting wildlife by fining a landowner $500 billion dollars for disputing a mud puddle navigable by only a small paper boat, or charging someone $100,000 for being a victim of kudzu.

Get rid of the EPA. YES!

Shades of Love Canal, where the Government, over the objections and lawsuit by Hooker Chemical against opening the sealed chemical vault, did so anyway.

The Government cut through the tightly sealed vault constructed by Hooker Chemical.

They then released the contents to the storm sewer system of the town of Love Canal, thereby distributing the contents throughout Love Canal.

Government is far too important than to be left in the hands of politicians.
