John Roberts should be a quick confirm. In 1995, while clerking for Chief Justice William Rehnquist, I and my two fellow law clerks asked the chief whom he thought was the best Supreme Court lawyer currently practicing. The chief replied, with a twinkle in his eye, that he thought he could probably get a majority of his colleagues to agree that John Roberts was the best Supreme Court advocate in the nation.

Just a reminder that Ted Cruz supported John Roberts that gave us Obamacare

Free Republic supported Roberts too, by and large, so what’s your point? We all thought that he was a great Conservative, along with Alito, so your post is completely dishonest. Go back and look at those threads.

Not unusual for _any_ president to pick a SCOTUS judge who then turns.

“Not unusual for _any_ president to pick a SCOTUS judge who then turns.”

Nope remember the little guy from NH...Souter!

Did Cruz realize that Roberts had something in his past (gay, black market children?) that would be used against him to contort like a pretzel in defense of Obamacare?

The Donald would certainly appoint Judge Judy given the chance! /s

How is it dishonest???

It’s very legit given the fact that the next President will be nominating at least 3 Supreme Court Justices. Do you want more John Roberts on the bench?

It’s a simple reminder that Cruz does not have the insight to recognize a fraud.

John Roberts did not give us Obamacare. He shot down the first attempt to have it declared unconstitutional. That was bad, but falsely exaggerating his role in the unconstitutional mess, solves nothing--and certainly pretending that Ted Cruz & a sick Rehnquist should have foreseen what Roberts might do years later, makes you look foolish.

What were the tell-tale signs that Cruz missed?

Trump thought Obama was wonderful back in 2008. How do you think that sort of judgment would serve us in picking Supreme Court nominees?

No you are wrong. He did it twice too.

John Roberts was THE deciding vote on Obamacare in both instances.

Here is just one of many articles. Google “John Roberts Obamacare” and all the articles come right up with crediting him.

I’m for Trump but that’s too harsh. NONE of us knew.

But note the question he asked Rehnquist was not who was the most conservative, or who would follow the letter and spirit of the Constitution best, but rather who was the best LAWYER.

Lawyer, pronounced Liar.

That’s what I thought you can’t defend it.

Instead you attack a New York Businessman. LOL!

Anyone that works in a big business know you never talk about sex, religion or politics.

Trump was in New York so he had to play along. That’s the way it works.

I was not suggesting that you are the only one who has made the accusation. I was simply pointing out that it was not so. Indeed, it was so clearly not so, that most of us were taken by surprise, when he voted as he did--and actually modified the "law," in order to support his clearly unjustified rationalization to support it.

But my major point is that you cannot blame Justice Rehnquist--or Ted Cruz, who relied on Rehnquist's assessment--for not having second sight to foresee what Roberts would do years later.

LOL! I like that.

Politics is a rough game. So this is how it’s going to be played.

I still think Cruz should have just kept doing what he was doing instead of going to war with Trump.

I could have seen a Trump/Cruz ticket, and the public would know him after 8 years. He could easily been president in the future. However, that is gone now.

Cruz now does not appeal to the masses like Trump. All you have to do is look at the rallies. Cruz may get around one to two hundred people. Trump gets thousands!

Trump was a successful businessman. Cruz was just another politician in a Congress that is not very popular. I think they have a 6% approval rating?

As did virtually every conservative. This is nothing but a hit piece and a dishonest one at that. No one knew when he was nominated he would turn out to be such a treacherous bastard!!

Just a reminder - DT trashed Scalia and suggested his far left liberal sister for the SC.
Are you trashing Renquist also? Inquiring minds.

This is not a hit piece. It’s an article from Ted Cruz and historical fact.
