Iranian military personnel likely removed two SIM cards from phones belonging to the 10 American sailors who were detained by Iran overnight last week, the Pentagon said.
The latest revelations in the circumstances surrounding the U.S. sailors' detention last Tuesday came in the first public account of the events released by the U.S. Central Command Monday.
"A post-recovery inventory of the boats found that all weapons, ammunition, and communication gear are accounted for minus two SIM cards that appear to have been removed from two handheld satellite phones," Central Command said in the release.

I am glad at least the media seems to remember this incident. I doubt the politicians on either side will get to the bottom of it. Iran & Obama both have no reason to come clean.
I want to know if the GPS devices had been tampered with. I am still not buying the idea that those boats were in Iranian territorial waters.
Used to zero out all comm & crypto gear, toss , bury, deep six or destroy common parts such as bolts and trigger groups on weapons, never mark a map in any form or fashion if capture was imminent or for what ever reason couldn’t keep said equipment from falling into enemy hands ......and never carry personal items shy of dog tags, military ID and maybe due the nature of the task at hand a DOD maroon or DOS black passport...
Seems that SOP has been ignored or changed.... insane.
I’m still wondering why the working boat didn’t take alleged broke boat in tow to prevent drifting into contested waters. Regardless of the nature / origin of this fiasco I’m glad the sailors are safe....

The Iranians do have GPS jammers and presumably GPS spoofing capabilities.
One cannot rule out human error on the part of the boat crews. In WW-II, disoriented pilots from time-to-time attempted landings on enemy airfields... sometimes successfully.
Not likely in this case. Their alleged destination was due North and they could have kept closer to the Arabian coastline.
The only other possiblility was that they were on a insertion/extraction and got busted. Surrendering was a matter of buying time for the skulkers.
What we should be worrying about is the possibliltiy that they grabbed some SEALs on Farsi Island and what is being done to those sailors since the Navy hasn’t acknowleged them.
So they could lie about where all this went down, i.e. non-Iranian waters.
Ambush, board, kidnap.
There always is a cover story. I have a friend who was on the original river boats in Vietnam, (66-67). The boat he was on was around half the size the off shore model. He also thought it involved an insertion or planting listening devices, ect. We will never know.
If this were not the Obama Administration, I would suspect that the entire incident was by design. Could it havre been?
For us the unsavvy, what’s the significance of taking their SIM cards?
1 loses both engines and can't be towed by the other? That's one reason they operate in pairs.
They radio their command and instead of sending help they send the sitrep up the chain to the White Hut where the SOS and SOD, Kerry and Carter call the Iranians to ask for help?
Then the sailors allow themselves to be captured without defending themselves and their commander disregards the Code Of Conduct to make a groveling apology like a dhimmi?
This was scripted, start to finish or incompetence at every level so great that it would embarrass a Cub Scout.
