This might play well in some circles, but I don't think this line of play is going to be successful in the long run.

Let's be charitable and chalk it up to a proud father getting a little carried away. Agree. It appears to me that Ted's dad is on some outer orbit, religiously speaking, and is unfortunately linking his son to his odd beliefs.
Ted and his advisors need to get the old man to tone it down before it hurts Ted in the primary.
