The big difference is that ultraleft elites in places like Dallas, Houston and Austin do not command a national audience.

Good point. However, other cities that may have values similar to the elites in NYC do not have the means, nor intent, to export those values across the county. NYC being the media, financial, and “cultural” hub gives them every opportunity to do just that.
