Leaving EU would be 'a jump into a void' for the UK

A vote for Britain to leave the EU would be a "jump into a void", according to the head of a new pro-European Conservative campaign group.

Former minister Nick Herbert has launched Conservatives for Reform in Europe (CRE) to argue the case for the UK to stay under renegotiated terms.

Meanwhile, the education secretary is also warning young people could be "cut off from the world" if the UK leaves.

David Cameron has said ministers can campaign on either side of the debate.

The PM's push to renegotiate Britain's terms of membership of the EU is expected to come to a head at a Brussels summit next month, ahead of a UK in/out referendum by the end of 2017.

Leaving the EU would simply restore the UK to a nation rather than a province of Greater Germania. Hardly a void

Did they belong to the EU during the time of King Arthur, Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, Victoria or Churchill?

why the @#$$ is the word conservative thrown around so easily and wrongfully in Europe?

merkel is a member of the “conservative” party.

this nut who thinks leaving the EU would spell doom is labeled a “conservative”

if that’s their conservatives, would hate to see their liberals.

History repeats itself as UK's Cameron risks party schism over EU vote
Facing the prospect of members of his team quitting, Cameron used the same tactic as Wilson this month and bowed to pressure to allow ministers to campaign to leave the EU after he renegotiates Britain's relationship with the bloc. But Cameron, who like Wilson favors staying in a reformed EU and has been accused by Eurosceptics of seeking insignificant changes in the negotiations, may be mindful of history.

Seven of Wilson's team of 23 senior ministers campaigned to leave what was then the European Economic Community. While Britain voted 67 percent to 33 percent to stay in, Labour split six years later, with four pro-Europeans breaking away to form a new party.

Leaving the EU would be jumping into the sea far from land but the ship from which one might jump is taking on water and will sink. Jump into the water and you may reach a lifeboat.

“why the @#$$ is the word conservative thrown around so easily and wrongfully in Europe?”

I think several things are in play. I still hear and read that the Nazis were right wing. This happened after World War II so that the communists and socialists (which is a fine distinction in itself) could separate themselves from a losing ideology. The intent was to save the ideology by rebranding it. When communist became a bad word it became socialist then moderate then liberal then progressive now its conservative. (I may not have the order right and the meaning differs according to the user.) The Left has twisted the language to exonerate themselves and the twisting is so extreme now that their words have no meaning to the uninitiated.

Wow, let the threats and intimidation begin.

Of course, the EU has reason to be worried, because Britain might set a trend. And the EU is all about unquestioning conformity, not independence.

That’s why the anti-EU movement must be crushed!
