I don’t see it as elitist at all. Competence, and consideration of the reader, play a part anytime one attempts to explain his thoughts and ideas to others. Pride in being concise and clearly understood seems to have been lost in today’s time. I regret that very much.

I regret the loss of even the English language as well. I agree with you, but I do not think an attempt by someone to be heard should be ignored because he probably doesn’t have the best education in the world. There are some who refuse to listen because someone doesn’t have a diploma in such and such profession. I’m a country girl, well educated, well traveled, and what might be called international. I still find the greatest gems in the old fisherman who chews up his words, or the granny whose homemade elixir works better than the Dr.’s pills. That’s all I was trying to say. Perhaps I have a greater experience with people than most.

So very beautifully stated, and I agree with your post in its entirety. I also admit my error in citing Daniel Boone when I had Davey Crockett in mind. Both were wonderful people and furthered the American spirit, but Crockett was the Congressman and also the one who was killed at the Alamo, defending freedom. Boone walked west when he was 80 and spent the winter in Yellowstone trapping, then walked home in the spring. Quite a man for his age, and for the ages.

I know. But Patton often made notes and wrote constantly to his wife. There are plenty of examples of his dyslexia.

I side with them too. It is also often the case that men who spend their lives battling the elements to survive as ranchers or farmers or fishermen, don’t have time to spend on perfecting their “letters.” When the truth be told, they are among the most educated men in the world in their own fields and with regards to nature. Some book- educated youngster cannot hold a candlestick to their true wisdom.

Perhaps. There is a difference in the written word and the spoken.
