New York values — Ted Cruz seems to think he has a pretty good idea of what exactly they are. So does Donald Trump, although his definition is exactly the opposite of Cruz’s, and The Donald has the advantage of having lived in N.Y., N.Y. his entire life.

Which brings us to “Massachusetts values.” There’s less debate over those, I dare say. There are certain things — actually, many things — that all can agree indisputably represent “Massachusetts values.”

A sign that says “EBT Accepted Here.” Moving a fire hydrant from out in front of your mansion. Potholes. Third bathrooms. Indicted House speakers. Nuclear-free zones. Sanctuary cities. One 32nd Cherokee. Voting present.

Nothing says “Massachusetts values” like non­essential government employees. Nonprofits. Social-impact trust funds. Handicapped parking spaces for the non-handicapped. Politicians who can’t pass the bar exam. Politicians who can’t pass a bar, period.

“Do you know who I am?” “Shelter in place.” “Don’t kill the job!”
