WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration is planning to expand a program to let would-be migrants from Central America apply for refugee status before they attempt to come to the U.S., Secretary of State John Kerry said Wednesday.
The office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees will now conduct initial screenings to see whether migrants from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala may qualify as refugees eligible to come to the United States legally.
"I am pleased to announce plans to expand the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program to help vulnerable families and individuals from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, and offer them a safe and legal alternative to the dangerous journey many are currently tempted to begin, making them easy prey for human smugglers who have no interest but their own profits," Kerry said in a speech at the National Defense University.
Later Wednesday President Barack Obama authorized the State Department to access up to $70 million from the U.S. Emergency Refugee and Migration Assistance Fund "for the purpose for meeting unexpected urgent refugee and migration needs related to the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program."

The United Nations has been in control of the US refugee program since we deferred to them in these matters I believe since George W. Bush’s likely first term. This is the reason no Christians can get out if the Middle East. Been like this a long time people. No one wants to believe this stuff and it is hard to get solid facts in approved articles or sources.
Why oh why did we do the Omnibus and not a continuing budget resolution? We should have temporarily funded the government, one month at a time if necessary. I hate them all. Maybe, I’m more than angry, maybe I am going mad. Aaaaargh!
Even if Kerry truly did want to help the “vulnerable” people of those nations, they will not apply to come up here. Only the bad ones will.
I’ve been down there (with a research group). Although it was 20 years ago, I think I’m accurate stating people fit into 3 categories: drugs, revolutionaries, poor.
The first 2 we don’t want in the USA, but they will push and shove the other ones out of the way. Honduras was the “murder capitol of the world” for quite a while.
People who have never scrounged around in the 3rd world or been in the military often don’t realize how violent and ignorant these people may be. (We traveled with an armed escort, unbeknown to us Americans until halfway thru the trip.)
If we want to help the truly vulnerable, this is a situation where foreign aid and faith initiatives in their own lands, maybe with education to help uplift their society and correct the corruption, is more merciful than dragging them up here.
US turns to its enemies once again to screen refugees
None are going to be turned down. Bo is flooding the nation with 3rd world criminals to put US citizens on their knees and he will get away with it. This is what African leaders do, just look around at our cities and African nations across the pond.
