I have a Filipino relative by marriage to a sister-in-law. When he visits the Philippines islands, he gives away all the clothes he brought with him. The poverty is that bad there. He also is careful where he goes, and makes sure locals are with him to avoid any situations with rebels. Always gives him a better appreciation for being an American (and working for the American military).
