U.S. Church Puts 5 Banks From Israel on a Blacklist [United Methodist]
NY Times ^ | JAN 12, 2016 | RICK GLADSTONE

The pension board of the United Methodist Church -- one of the largest Protestant denominations in the United States, with more than seven million members -- has placed five Israeli banks on a list of companies that it will not invest in for human rights reasons, the board said in a statement on Tuesday.

It appeared to be the first time that a pension fund of a large American church had taken such a step regarding the Israeli banks, which help finance settlement construction in what most of the world considers illegally occupied Palestinian territories.

Wine being prepared for export at Shiloh Wineries, based in the West Bank settlement of Shiloh, this month.

Palestinian advocates, both in and outside the church, described the step as an important advance in the Boycott, Divest and Sanction campaign, or B.D.S., an international effort to pressure Israel economically over the Palestinian issue. Others within the church, however, called those claims misleading, noting that the church remains invested in other Israeli companies and that members had overwhelmingly opposed divestment resolutions.

I'm sure the good Methodists would say there's something these banks did beyond being Israeli, but those are the five largest banks in Israel

Back in 2005, I was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (ELCA) in Leesburg, VA. In the monthly newsletter, there was an article from our Minster in Jerusalem. He had obviously been coopted by the PA and wrote a very inflamatory message about the Isralies. It was shortly after Israel had turned over the West Bank and in response, the Palies had gone on a rampage and destroyed all of the working facilities, including green houses and other agricultural facilities. This sanctimonious bastard blamed the Jews for it!

The ELCA, the UM, and other mainline churches are nothing but organs of the liberals and their anti-Semetic beliefs. They will not get a penny from me, ever again. They are not Christian.

Somewhere around the time you described, I read something that my mom had brought home from her - and formerly my - ELCA church. It was an extraordinarily anti-Israel screed written by one of the ELCA's paleo-SJW's troublemakers doing "mission work" with Pallies, and it was really, really disturbing. At that time, this particular ELCA church was not as far down the road as the local UMC church (which had abandoned Bible study for sledding parties and kumbayah services as far back as the 1970's), but in the time since, they have reached parity.

Perhaps the UMC feels the need to outdo the ELCA in anti-semitism.

The United Methodist church has become the "Church of Positive Christianity".

Left the Methodist church in the mid-70’s.

Never looked back.

It appears as if a loony leftist, got control over the United Methodist Church’s purse strings and decide to execute his/her world order utopia plan.

I absolutely despise the UMC, (United Marxist Coalition) no longer even masquerading... as a church. May it die a quick death, and justifiably so, owing to the heretic org. it’s become.

The Palestinians are an excuse for anti Semites to act on their antiSemitism. It gives them cover so they can say they are just against those people in Israel who are oppressing those poor innocent arabs.

Looks like I have to find a new church.

Most of my family has done so and are glad they did (they kick themselves for not doing so sooner). It can be tough to leave what is familiar, and for my mother (who went from ELCA to LCMS), it was something of a traumatic experience- until she realized how much more vital and alive the Word was in her new church home.

We are admonished to "come out" from the fallen and false churches in the end times, and they sure seem to be close upon us.

I grew up in the UMC. I did a lot for it, including a book.

I left it.

No. It left me.

I was halfway through the diaconal ministry program of the UMC 30 years ago, when the church I worked at downsized and I scrambled into college teaching. I would be ashamed to be a UMC diaconal minister today.
