Yes it was. But very catchy. And it featured Jazz Great Lester Bowie (no relation) on Trumpet.

Jean Genie would have to be up there near the top, too. I’d lead that off for the 6-10 list:

6. Jean Genie
7. Starman
8. Panic in Detroit
9. Diamond Dogs
10.Tie: TCV15, John, I’m only Dancing, Suffragette City, Ziggy Stardust, Moonage Daydream

Space Oddity BLEW my 14 yo mind the first time I heard it. It was actually a quadraphonic “pressing”. That was just shortly after the initial release.

It’s one of those memories I’ll carry into the next life / the next existence.

“Surrogate City”?! I know, auto-correct! Might make for an interesting song too though.

Suffragette City, Diamond Dogs and Modern Love. Does it for me. RIP David.

I was never a big David Bowie fan, but I always liked “Heroes” and “Ziggy Stardust” myself.

When you think of who the “Beethovens” and the “Mozarts” of the Rock-era are, the folks, whose music will still be played and analyzed a hundred years from now, certainly Bowie is one of those figures, along with the Beatles.

I agree. When I listen to a lot of the music I grew up in the 1970s with, I ask myself what I was thinking. But the David Bowie stuff still sounds fresh today. My kids like it too. It would fit right in on today’s college alternative playlists.

I’m hard pressed to name a favorite song of Bowies; there were so many that I really adored growing up.

If I *had* to pick a favorite, it just might be Station to Station.

I’ll go with Jimi, I might be missing some others.

He knew how to write a song with a hook in it, a riff in it. A station here was playing highlights of his career. He was very creative.

He also, once he hit it big, left a lot of that “glam”, glitter stuff, I think it was a bit of a shock act to hit the big time. But that’s just my view.
