Othering: New York Times Openly Questions Ted Cruz's Christian Faith
Breitbart ^ | 12 Jan 2016 | John Nolte

Posted on 01/12/2016 10:00:54 AM PST by Isara

Because Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz doesn’t properly crease his pants or favor the infanticide of partial-birth abortion, on the pages of The New York Times, columnist David Brooks (who identifies as a conservative) openly questions Cruz’s Christian faith, and does so for the sin of Cruz doing his job as solicitor general for the state of Texas.

The case reveals something interesting about Cruz's character. Ted Cruz is now running strongly among evangelical voters, especially in Iowa. But in his career and public presentation Cruz is a stranger to most of what would generally be considered the Christian virtues: humility, mercy, compassion and grace. Cruz's behavior in the Haley case is almost the dictionary definition of pharisaism: an overzealous application of the letter of the law in a way that violates the spirit of the law, as well as fairness and mercy. ...

But Cruz's speeches are marked by what you might call pagan brutalism. There is not a hint of compassion, gentleness and mercy. Instead, his speeches are marked by a long list of enemies, and vows to crush, shred, destroy, bomb them. When he is speaking in a church the contrast between the setting and the emotional tone he sets is jarring.

Wow. Pagan brutalism.

...

I’m old enough to remember when it was racist to “other” a non-white presidential candidate like Ted Cruz through the questioning of his Christian faith. In fact, it was the New York Times itself that helped to set this standard. In fact, Republicans who don’t correct those who question Obama’s faith are smeared as racist in the New York Times.

...

The Precious Obama’s Christian faith is off-limits, but othering Ted Cruz on the pages of the New York Times is fair game.

Democrats sure got it good.

"I want to tell everyone to get ready, strap on the full armor of God. Get ready for the attacks that are coming," Cruz said. "Come the month of January, we ain't seen nothing yet."

Utterly shameful. There are legitimate arguments to be made for and against the positions of all the candidates on issues — but attacking their religion is not one of them, whether it’s Cruz, Carson, or any of the others.

The Party of Tolerance strikes again.

Like Trump:

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said this week in Iowa that there aren’t many evangelical Christians who hail from Cuba.

“Just remember this - you gotta remember, in all fairness, to the best of my knowledge, not too many evangelicals come out of Cuba, okay?” Mr. Trump said at a campaign event Tuesday. “Just remember that...just remember.”...

Makes me wonder why the NYT never questions Obama’s Muslim faith.

It's amazing how many nominal christians and atheists want to tell me how to be a Christian.

Do normal people actually pay any attention to what’s written in this rag?

Trumpees already tried to push this when their hero brought it up in Iowa in December. Noticed how few say “Cruz or Trump” anymore? Truth does matter.

It is Cruz’s faith that in a holy and righteous God disturbs those that are hoping there will be no judgement. It is not his Christianity that they question, it is his Christianity they cannot tolerate, because the God of Christianity cannot tolerate sin.

David Brooks (who identifies as a conservative)

Brooks is conservative like Bruce Jenner is a woman.

I guess RINO Brooks got his marching orders from the GOP-e to try to take down a “fellow” conservative. I personally don’t care that Cruz tried to enforce the law while Solicitor General of Texas. That’s his job.

It appears that lots of people - including “His Highness” Donald Trump - are going after Ted Cruz with renewed vigor. “He’s not eligible...”, “He’s not really a Christian...”, etc.

I find it a bit odd that Trump is apparently allied with the New York Times and the Washington Post...

None that I am aware of. I haven’t looked at one since I was stranded at an airport, and all kiosks were closed. That was some 30 years ago : )

Excuse me, but what in the world does the New York Times understand about anyone’s Christian faith?

(nothing)
