On that “incandescents produce mainly heat” point....
Though factually true, if they produce heat it goes somewhere (into the room), which means that’s just that much less heat that your furnace must produce.
So isn’t it a wash?
Meh. LED bulbs are the future, I think.
I hate the blue light emitted by the “new” light bulbs!
I’ve been looking for florescent heat lamps to save energy but can’t find them.
I wouldn’t think so.
This technique was done over 25 years ago by a famous US company. They never brought it to market because it was too expensive to make rugged enough for everyday use. In particular, keeping the reflected IR light properly focused onto the filament is a lot harder than it sounds.
While I remain a loyal fan of the incandescent bulb (especially in winter!) this "new" invention will probably not save us from CFLs or LEDs.
Just took down the C9 bulbs from my parents house - now those puppies are old school.
The C9's were old school when I put them up at my parents house for the last time in 1989.
Hey, did you do our house? That’s our bulbs!
Yep -- except for the time when they are fighting your air conditioning -- which is a lot of the time, here in Texas...
I like 5000k light myself. I feel more peppy.
The lower the number the more yellow.
True, but that's only half the story. Once China started making incandescent bulbs, they were cheaper than those made by GE and other American manufacturers. To freeze out Chinese imports, American bulb makers latched on to the "global warming" and "energy saving" kick and convinced Congress to outlaw incandescent bulbs. As usual, it's another form of crony capitalism.
