This is the biggest death in music since Lennon in 1980. Even bigger than James Brown, Ray Charles or George Harrison. The sheer shock of it is part of it.

And as a fan, I would implore you to rediscover the man’s music. Genius, as David Cameron said, is an overused word, but Bowie is and will be one of the modern greats.

Don’t worry, Bing slapped enough people about for both of us. Usually his wife and kids.

Sad if you never cared for him, but millions of us loved him and his great music. He made some of the best pop and rock of all time, and was a master of showmanship and musical versatility. His influence of music and pop culture was and is immense.

As to a pervert, his androgyny was show, a brilliant artifice. He was in fact a twice married heterosexual with children. His bi-sexuality was a skilful and brilliant fake, designed to push the cultural boundaries and loosen people up.

Yes, I will miss him greatly, as will many here on FR and across the world. A nice man, a great artist.

The lesson of David Bowie was that, here was a guy that questioned all of the conventions in the 60s and 70s, and tried all of the alternative lifestyles, and what did he conclude?

That the conventional ways were best, as evidenced by the fact that he spent the last 20+ years of his life as a devoted husband and family man.

Good point.

As discussed, a lot of his gay experiences/bisexuality are rumour, myth and some put out by him. To enhance the androgynous myth.

Gadzooks, and back in February of 2012, I told the death of Whitney Houston was the biggest death since John Lennon, James Brown, Ray Charles, George Harrison, etc--

I did know one or two of her songs but was not a fan at all.

It is evident that we define 'Genius' in two very different ways. If David Bowie was a genius... then I will be happy being just able to find my ass with both hands.

Uhuh.  And what impact did that have upon the MTV culture that idolized Bowie...

Luke 17:1-4

17 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. 2 It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. 3 So watch yourselves.

"If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. 4 If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him."
NIV

...and his created things?

Rom 1:25-27
25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator — who is forever praised. Amen.

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
NIV

I’m surprised that no one has mentioned his playing Pontius Pilate in ‘The Last Temptation of Christ’

How on Earth did he miss being in at least ONE Bond film?

Was he a genius in the sense of Einstein?. No. But in artistic terms, yes.

Ms Houston was a talented singer, but this and Jackson’s death are on another level. Its all about not only the body of work, but the influence they had. In Bowie’s case, that was both cultural and musical/artistic.

In Bowie’s case, that was both cultural

If you call de-masculinizing men a genius move then.....LMAO

I just enjoyed his music.
Einstein was a Genius.

Bout sums it up for me... :^)

It would be except that nimrod can’t cay that phrase or “Congrats President-Elect Trump”.

WAAAAAAYYYYYYY too complicated, especially with the hyphen included.

It would be like asking a cat to pilot a battleship.
