(Albuquerque) Officer had key role in much-needed miracle (found kidnapped 3-year old little girl)
Albuquerque Journal ^ | January 8, 2016 | Joline Gutierrez Krueger

He turned me down.

By the time I asked for an interview, Albuquerque police officer Chris Poccia had already been all over the media – in our newspaper, on TV news and talk radio locally and nationally and in every imaginable way on social media.

The Albuquerque Police Department put him in the public eye almost from the moment he became the center of the city's best happy-ending story in weeks, maybe months, maybe longer than that.

Poccia had been the one to find a little bundle of purple named Caraline Leon-Alcocar, a 3-year-old girl who for five hours Saturday night and into Sunday had disappeared after her mother's car was stolen just steps away as she filled up jugs of water in front of the Smith's at Lomas and San Pedro NE.

The car had been found within minutes, 3 miles northwest in a Savers parking lot at Menaul and Carlisle NE. But Caraline wasn’t in the car.

In a city still rocked by the death of another little girl - Lilly Garcia, barely 4, killed with a shot to her head in a road rage incident in October - it was easy to expect the worst.

Hundreds of officers and citizens fanned out into the chilly night, where temperatures dipped into the low 20s. A motorcycle group named Guardians of the Children hit the streets. Smith's employees stayed late. Helicopters crisscrossed the skies, and police dogs sniffed the ground.

In homes across the city, many stayed glued to social media for updates on the missing Caraline.

"I wasn't going to be able to get to sleep knowing that precious little girl was out there somewhere," one of my Facebook friends wrote.

Just a followup to a wonderful happy ending story posted a couple of days ago.

Watching the police bodycam video when he found her tore me up. (I've got grandchildren.)

No interview with Poccia and he won’t be giving one for a while as he went on active duty with the Marines on Wednesday morning (1/6).

Good article (except for the gratuitous reference to Obama and gun control).
