Greyhound Driver Stops At Motel To Rest With Bus Full Of Passengers (left 'em clueless, stranded)
CBS Denver ^ | 1/5/2016 | Staff

DENVER (CBS4)- A Greyhound bus bound for Denver made a pit stop at a motel in Kansas so the driver could rest. The catch - the passengers on board had no idea where he was going or for how long.

The driver left dozens of passengers stranded on the bus for hours outside the La Quinta motel in Salina, Kan. while he went inside to catch up on some sleep.

The bus pulled into the motel late Tuesday afternoon. The driver got off without telling anyone where he was going.

Passengers initially thought it was going to be a quick stop but when the driver didn't come back, they called both the bus company and police.

"We haven't seen the driver. We're sitting here and sitting here. I had to keep the bus running because we have newborns and children... it's getting cold," said one passenger.

Greyhound said the driver had to finish his federally-regulated rest hours. The company also said the passengers could have waited inside a fast food restaurant to keep warm.

Mostly illegals ride these long haul buses. So sorry.

I was on a Greyhound tbus and had to transfer in Philadelphia.

Our “native Philadelphi-er” drive felt it necessary to pull the bus over, go inside a Burger King, and get himself a soda.

Now that's what I call customer service! Is there any wonder why Greyhound is seemingly taking over the world?

Greyhound files for bankruptcy. Corporate is wondering why? Don’t they like us anymore?

Maybe the passenger who kept the bus running could have also driven the bus the rest of the way and made all the stops. :-)

And if the driver decided to get back on the bus and drive off while they were in the fast food restaurant?

And if the fast food restaurant had to close and leave the passengers out in the cold with no means of getting to their destination?

They had better get their trip comped, and get a free bus ticket to any destination they want.

If their driver was so far behind on his sleep, there should have been another driver waiting there to take over.

Isn’t that the purpose of fast food restaurants? Don’t they exist to keep other companies customers warm?

On a trip from Dallas to San Antonio, the driver of a bus I was on decided to stop and have a meal. If they would just tell you why you were stopping and for how long, it would be much better.

Greyhound might be cheap, but it’s a lousy way to travel. Did it once, never again. Lots of creepy people, including the driver. I guess you get what you paid for. If I can’t afford airfare or can’t go by car, I’ll stay home.

I took a long bus ride from Flint MI to Paragould AR to visit a friend in the days before I owned a car. About 100 miles from my destination, the bus driver stopped, got out and opened the baggage compartment and then laid down and shut the door. We were stopped on the side of the road for about 45 minutes. He then got back in the bus and drove on. I think he took a nap. I would rather have had him take a nap than swerve off the road because he got real sleepy.

Reminds me on our last trip to Las Vegas. We caught one of those buses that make a circuit of the strip. About ten minutes into the ride we park at what looks like a bus terminal. Driver gets off, and we sit waiting to go again. Turns out that was the end of his shift. He parked the bus, did not say anything and left the passengers waiting. We would still be there if we had not gone in to find out what was going on. There we found out we were suppose to go to other side of the terminal and catch another bus.

Isn’t customer service great.

Good grief. Hire a relief driver. Who the hell is running that company? A mentally challenged six year old?
